Burden Of Proof stallion in India at The Kunigal Stud: CHAMPION ON THE TRACK AND AT STUD

Burden Of Proof [IRE]

A product of Lyonstown Stud in Ireland, Burden of Proof[IRE] started his racing career in 1994 with Charles O’Brien – son of the legendary Vincent O’Brien. He won in a 7 fur. maiden at Curragh and was straightaway promoted to Group company.Burden of Proof[IRE] proved himself worthy of this honour by annexing the 8 fur. Group 3, Juddmonte Beresford Stakes on the same track, by six long lengths! This concluded his juvenile season.
At three, Burden of Proof[IRE] raced most consistently, annexing the Listed Waterford Testimonial Stakes and placing at his other three starts, including a close fourth – beaten only a length by Spectrum – in the Group 1 First National Building Society Irish 2000 Guineas. Although he won the following year as well, it was when he was five and six that Burden of Proof[IRE] really sizzled.
BURDEN OF PROOF[IRE]
(bay 1992 – 2016)
By Fairy King out of Belle Passe by Be My Guest
These two seasons saw him recording no less than seven victories over 6 furlongs and one mile, including
the Group 2 Budweiser World Cup International Stakes, the Group 3 Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes,
the Group 3 Ragusa Stud Minstrel Stakes, the Listed Doyle Berkeley Court Amethyst Stakes and the
Listed Waterford Testimonial Stakes. For his efforts, Burden of Proof[IRE] was twice honoured as a champion, earning the title of Highweighted Older Horse in Ireland, once at 5-7 fur. and once at 7-9.5 fur. His highest official rating was 118.
Because of the tremendous enthusiasm he showed, Burden of Proof[IRE] remained in training at seven, where he
retained his zest – and his grip on the Amethyst Stakes – before bowing out as sound as on the day he started his long
career. Burden of Proof[IRE]’s lifetime earnings from 32 starts amounted to £ 204,024. His 12 victories meant that he made more visits to the winners’ enclosure than virtually any other imported stallion at stud in India.
Burden of Proof[IRE] was inbred 2 X 3 to breed-shaper Northern Dancer.
Retired to stud in India in 2000, Burden of Proof[IRE] started sensationally with 5 Classic winners from his first crop of 26 named foals. He went from strength to strength as the years passed, coming up with current champion Desert God, the highest earner in the annals of Indian racing!
Burden of Proof[IRE] passed away on 2nd August 2016 at the age of 24 and was posthumously crowned Champion Sire in India for 2015/16.
