AMARON capped a notable day for Shamardal on Sunday when defeating Amarillo to take the Premio Vittorio di Capua at San Siro.
The Darley stallion had been represented by his 21st Pattern winner earlier in the afternoon when Calipatria, a daughter of the tough Group 2 winner Golden Silca, won the Group 3 Grosser Preis Jungheinrich Gabelstapler at Hanover.
Amaron is the eighth Group 1 winner by Shamardal and his third of 2012 following Crackerjack King (Premio Presidente della Repubblica) and Sagawara (Prix Saint-Alary).
Shamardal stood the past season at Kildangan Stud for €50,000.
A 105,000gns Tattersalls December yearling purchase by BBA Germany, Amaron is the first foal out of Amandalini, who was purchased by his breeder, Genesis Green Stud, for a bargain 5,000gns at the 2007 Tattersalls December Sale. The daughter of Bertolini is a half-sister to the Grade 3 winner Persianlux and out of a placed daughter of Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Tropicaro.
