Bated Breath (left) could set up a clash with Australian star Black Caviar

BATED BREATH is set to become the latest sprinter to prove his worth for a date with Australian superstar Black Caviar after he was left as clear second favourite for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes following the defeat of Krypton Factor in Singapore on Sunday.

Dubai Golden Shaheen winnerKrypton Factor was pushed out to 20-1 (from 16) by Coral in the wake of his KrisFlyer Sprint defeat, leaving Bated Breath, beaten a nose for last year’s July Cup, on 14-1 with that firm and as low as 10-1 with BetVictor.

Bated Breath, who missed the Duke Of York Stakes, could reappear in Saturday’s Temple Stakes at Haydock, where victory could set up a royal meeting clash on June 23 with Black Caviar.

Trainer Roger Charlton said: “I will certainly confirm the entry in the Temple Stakes and probably the Curragh [Greenland Stakes on the same day] too.

“My first choice is the Temple Stakes. I think wherever he runs he will need a prep race and we will decide what to do after that. I have no particular feeling about taking on Black Caviar one way or the other. It would be good if she comes and it would be good to beat her if she comes.”

Black Caviar, unbeaten in 21 races, is general 1-2 favourite for the Diamond Jubilee.
