Kennedy wins Jockey of the Year in New Zealand

South African champion Warren Kennedy had won the Jockey of the Year title at the recent New Zealand Racing Awards.

He is the reigning NZ premiership champion and he states that winning this title is “a cherry on the cake” for him but he is unlikely to chase the championship again. “If I am in the running come April or thereabouts I’ll put my head down and have a go at it,” he stated at the awards.

Cogburn confirms Status as Best Turf Sprinter in States

Cogburn, North America’s leading grass sprinter, showcased his dominance on September 7 by winning the $1,797,200 Ainsworth Turf Sprint Stakes (G2T) at Kentucky Downs. This victory was particularly significant as it avenged his only loss on grass from 2023 at the same track. Ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Cogburn took the lead early in the six-furlong race and never relinquished control, finishing with a time of 1:07.68 and winning by 3 1/4 lengths under minimal pressure.
