Arc on the cards for Saint-Cloud ace Alpinista
It’s full steam ahead to Longchamp for Alpinista, after the star mare won her fourth consecutive Group 1 yesterday, landing the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud for Sir Mark Prescott.
It was the five-year-old’s first outing since winning a Group 1 in Munich last November and has provided a much-needed boost for the Prescott yard, which had only sent out six winners all year and none since May.
But under her usual partner Luke Morris, the grey provided a ray of sunshine as she led home Baratti (10-1) and Bubble Gift (25-1), winning at 79-10.
“I hope she can improve a lot from the run”
Morris was delighted with Alpinista’s performance, he said: “She’s taken a long time to come to hand this year, which is why she missed the Coronation Cup.
“I feel she’s only just starting to come now. I hope she can improve a lot from the run.
“I think all roads will probably lead to the Arc. The King George may come a bit soon but races like the Vermeille would be an ideal prep for the Arc.”
Alpinista – what a mare.

Frankie Dettori narrowly denied in German Derby
On Saturday John Gosden left the door open for Frankie Dettori to ride for his old mate and boss once again in the future.
Yesterday a globetrotting Dettori had the chance to show Gosden what he’s missing as he lined up in the German Derby - a race he last won in 1991.
And how close he came to silencing the doubters. Dettori gave himself every chance on Markus Klug’s So Moonstruck but was narrowly denied, finishing third behind Sammarco (63-10) and Schwarzer Peter (47-1) in a Hamburg thriller.
Earlier in the day Dettori had suffered another disappointment, as the 7-10 favourite Mountaha could only manage second behind Hollie Doyle and Well Disposed who picked up the Group 3 Mehl Mulhens-Trophy.
What next for Frankie? He is likely to miss the ride on Inspiral in Friday’s Falmouth at Newmarket as he heads Stateside – but we’re sure he’ll be back on some British winners soon.
A breakthrough for Kazakhstan
The German Derby provided a landmark success for Kazakh jockey Bauyrzhan Murzabayev, who partnered Peter Schiergen’s Sammarco to victory.
It was his maiden Group 1 success, and afterwards he said: “I’m lost for words, that felt amazing.”
Having ridden at Royal Ascot this year, he’s one to keep an eye on.
