20/10/2021. Arqana: The October Yearling Sale continues its momentum
Following on from the first day of the sale, the second day of the October Yearling Sale, which hosted the first half of Part 2 of the catalogue, was also marked by a very dynamic market. More than 83% of the 126 horses presented changed hands for an average price of €36,814, with five of them making more than €100,000. The turnover reached €3,870,500.
Top price of the day for a brother to NATIONAL SERVICE
Consigned by Coulonces and eagerly awaited in the ring, a brother to Prix Paul de Moussac Longines (Gr.3) winner NATIONAL SERVICE (lot 252) was knocked down for €150,000. It was the agent Paul Harley that had the final say for the son of Elusive City. He said, “For me he was one of the best colts in the catalogue. He has everything going for him to make a racehorse – his conformation and physique and the attitude. We don’t know yet where he’ll go into training, but he’ll probably stay in France. His brother was also a winner at two, so we hope he’ll be just as good.”

Daughter of Iffraaj for AB Ascot
Just a few minutes later, Ghislain Bozo (Meridian International) went to €140,000 for a daughter of Iffraaj (lot 258) from Jedburgh Stud. After signing the docket for the filly, that hails from the family of Group winners DIBAJJ, CHINEUR and THE SUMMIT, the agent commented:
“We just had to have her! She’s a very racy filly from a speedy family. She’ll also be ideal for breeding from. I’ve bought her for a Scandinavian client, AB Ascot (Finn Bichfeldt). She’ll join Christophe Ferland’s stable.”
Two Almanzor yearlings sold for more than €100,000
Carlos and Yann Lerner, the trainers of QUEEN TREZY, a daughter of Almanzor that had finished runner-up in the Prix des Réservoirs (Gr.3) earlier in the day on only her third start, struck for another daughter by the Haras d’Etreham sire (lot 242). The hammer fell at €130,000 for the filly, that is out of the family of WILL DANCER, IMPASSABLE and ATTENDU.
“She’s a lovely, well balanced filly,” said the trainer. “I’ve bought her for an association between Mr de Chambure and Haras du Cadran. We’re very pleased with our purchase!”
Also offered from Haras d’Etreham, the second yearling by Almanzor to make six figures was a colt from the family of the triple Group 1 winner WANDESTA (lot 366). He was sold for €120,000 to Fabrice Chappet bidding on behalf of Amanda Skiffington.
