The v.2 Yearling Sale, which did not take place last year, was marked by a drop in all of its indicators. Following on once more after the August Sale, of the 129 colts and fillies offered on Tuesday, 74% changed hands for an average price of 30,339 (-18% compared to the 2019 edition). The turnover was down 30% at 2,917,500.
A daughter of Toronado and a son of Mehmas share the top price of the day
Both yearlings that made 140,000 during the session had one thing in common: they were both knocked down to Nicolas de Watrigant (Mandore International Agency). The first to go under the hammer was a daughter of Toronado (lot 379), a half-sister to black-type performers IVORY CHOICE and OVER REACTED. Bidding alongside Thomas Bernereau, Pierre Pilarski and Didier Guillemin from the restaurant, the agent had the final say for the filly that hails from the family of Group winner IVORY LAND, consigned by Haras du Cadran.
We really wanted her, said Nicolas de Watrigant. We have been lucky with one of her half-sisters, Over Reacted, that has been Group 3 placed. Shes a lovely filly, very Toronado. Pierre Pilarski and Didier Guillemin saw her this morning and liked her a lot. She was worth fighting for.
Later in the day, it was with Deauville trainer Stephane Wattel that the agent went to 140,000 for the second time, on this occasion for a son of Mehmas (lot 470), offered by Haras de Castillon. After signing the docket for the colt out of the family of the excellent Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr.1) winner TIGGY WIGGY, Nicolas de Watrigant commented,
“He is a son of Mehmas, a proven stallion, and comes from the family of Tiggy Wiggy, a family that produces good two-year-olds. He’s a very nice colt that walks well, and he has everything that points to him being precocious. I am very happy to have bought him for a partnership between Mr Jathière and Mr Bérès. He will go into training with Stéphane Wattel.
Following the sale, ARQANA President Eric Hoyeau and Executive Director Freddy Powell commented: “After a gap year, the v.2 made a cautious return today. All the indicators were down, partly due to a general lack of buyers in this category of horses, particularly the pinhookers who are usually present on this day. Nevertheless, the profiles that ticked all the boxes sold well and the top prices are in line with those of previous editions. |
