TEAM SWISH DOMINATE AT LINGFIELD PARK TO TOP WILLIAM HILL RACING LEAGUE STANDINGS

The William Hill Racing League moved on to Lingfield Park for Race Day 3 of the six-race series. With less than twenty points separating the top eight teams in the League, all was to play for as the respective Team Managers looked to play their strongest hands and gain valuable points. In addition to the scintillating action on the track, spectators were treated to live performances from M People’s Heather Small alongside resident DJ Amy Lauren and an ensemble of fellow DJs, including Hako, Lucy Jane and Rick Sanchez.

The opening race, the William Hill Extra Places Racing League Race Thirteen, a six-furlong contest went to Marks Bear, trained by Gary Moore and ridden by Pat Cosgrave, for the in-form Team BullionVault, just half-a-length ahead of Kool Moe Dee in second for Team TalkSPORT. In victory, Marks Bear went one better than his run at The William Hill Racing League fixture at Doncaster last week.

Eleven went to post for the second, another tightly fought six-furlong contest which went to a photo finish to decide the winner. Eventual victory was awarded to Typhoon Ten for Team ThoroughBid from Jack The Truth in second for Goat Racing. Typhoon Ten, a five-year-old gelding ridden by Hayley Turner and trained by Richard Hannon, reclaimed the form which has seen him win over this course and distance in the past.

Team Swish took the spoils in the third race of the evening, with The Attorney flying home to get up on the line from Mohareb. The Charles Hills trained colt was a winner last time out and overcame a poor draw under Adam Kirby.

The fourth race of the day went to Billhilly for trainer Charlie Fellowes and Goat Racing. Saffie Osborne, riding Team Swish’s Brains for her father Jamie Osborne, took an early lead and attempted to make all, but Billhilly, a four-year-old gelding by Sea The Stars, made it four wins from six runs this year with a well-timed run to pass eventual second Double Dealing in the final few strides.

Saffie Osborne survived the scare of a steward’s enquiry to take the penultimate race and make it a double on the night for Team Swish pushing them clear at the top of the William Hill Racing League leaderboard. Riding the Charlie Hills trained Menai Bridge, Osborne took the lead in the final furlong and held on to win by a head. Second place went to Oslo, trained by Michael Appleby with Daniel Tudhope on board, claiming much needed points for Team Arena.

The evening closed with a win for Team TalkSPORT to close the gap to Team Swish and end the night in fifth place on the William Hill Racing League leaderboard at the midway point of the series. The winner Lydford, trained by Newmarket-based Roger Varian with Jack Mitchel on board, went off 6-4 favourite following a close second at Newcastle a fortnight ago. He was chased home by Red October and Scampi for Goat Racing and Team ThoroughBid respectively.

Speaking ahead of his win in the fourth race of the day, Charlie Fellows, training for Goat Racing, said of the William Hill Racing League: “I really like the idea of doing something different, we’ve got to think outside the box and this offered my owners a really good way of getting some good prize money on some decent horses. I think anything that brings money from outside of racing into the sport has to be a positive thing and hopefully will become a feature in the racing calendar every year.”
