Dream and Do (right) defeats Speak of the Devil I Scoop Dyga
There was a thriller in store in Deauville’s G1 Emirates Poule d’Essai des Pouliches with Haras du Logis Saint Germain’s Dream and Do (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) inching out Speak of the Devil (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}). Runner-up to Tropbeau (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) in the G3 Prix de la Grotte also at ParisLongchamp May 11, the homebred followed the pace under Maxime Guyon, took over a furlong from home and had her nose down on the bobber as Speak of the Devil lunged. The winner was 9-1, while Mageva (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) completed the surprise trifecta two lengths away, a head in front of the favourite Tropbeau in fourth.

Poulains Glory For Victor Ludorum
France’s Classic season got underway with a bang on Monday as Godolphin’s ‘TDN Rising Star’ Victor Ludorum (GB) (Shamardal) made his class tell when emerging on top in the G1 Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Deauville. Sent off the 7-5 favourite despite his below-par prep when third in the May 11 G3 Prix de Fontainebleau at ParisLongchamp, last year’s G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner had one behind early and showed signs of laziness but Mickael Barzalona bided his time and coaxed him forward on the stands’ side. Taking command approaching the final furlong, the homebred was pushed out to assert for a 1 1/2-length verdict over The Summit (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), with Alson (Ger) (Areion {Ger}) narrowly behind for a Fabre one-three.
