A titanic field of 11 males will clash in today’s $300,000 Shoemaker Mile Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita Park in the year’s first stateside “Win and You’re In” Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series race.
A strong cast of seven locals will face four foes shipping into town for Mark Casse, recently elected into the Hall of Fame, and Chad Brown, who has won the past four years’ Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer. Brown trained the winner of last year’s TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile, which was held over this course and distance last November.
The winner of the Shoemaker Mile will receive an automatic position in the $2 million TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) this fall at Keeneland. NBCSN’s live coverage begins at 6:00 PM ET, so be sure to tune-in.

If you haven’t already participated, time is winding down to design the ultimate 2020 Breeders’ Cup themed t-shirt for your chance to win two VIP tickets to the 2020 Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Keeneland. The winning design will also be produced and sold in the Official Breeders’ Cup Store. Today’s Memorial Day race is named after legendary Hall of Fame jockey Bill Shoemaker and regularly draws a deep, talented field. With limited opportunities over the last few months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Shoemaker Mile lured a gifted cast of 11 turf milers for what should be an excellent edition of the Grade 1 race.
