VINERY’S EASTER YEARLINGS
Lot 174 - Sebring x Runway Star filly
This filly’s strong pedigree is full of Stakes-winning sprinters. She is the second foal of Gr.3 and dual Listed winning mare RUNWAY STAR. Her 3rd dam, WRAP AROUND, is a Gr.1, Gr.2, dual Gr.3 and three-time Listed winner. She’s also from the family of Champion 2yo filly and dual Gr.1 winner FASHIONS AFIELD and Gr.2 Todman Stakes winner and sire KISS AND MAKE UP.
She’s from the second last crop of the ill-fated Golden Slipper winner Sebring. His excellent sire record includes 5 Stakes winners, 117 Stakes horses and has an amazing 66.5% winners to runners strike rate. View her pedigree here.
She’s a very attractive filly with good size and strength, which is impressive given that she is a November foal. She also has good scope and will only continue to improve. She’s a filly who is all quality and has real presence.
Although neither parent needs an introduction they’re too exciting not to mention. I Am Invincible is consistently one of the best sires in the land. SNITZERLAND was obviously a very early type, being Stakes placed before Christmas at 2 and going on to be 2nd in a Golden Gr.1 Slipper. She then claimed 6 Stakes wins inc. the Gr.1 Lightning Stakes. But beyond that, she has quickly demonstrated that she is one of those rare, top class race mares who can also do it as a producer.
This colt only has two older siblings (both by All Too Hard) and they’ve both earnt black type; HARD LANDING won the Gr.3 Maribyrnong P. on debut at 2 and Saas Fee is Gr.3 placed. His family also includes young sire SOOBOOG and Stakes winners EXTENSION OF TIME and NINA HARAKA. View his pedigree here.
Being a later foal, this colt is still developing but he has certainly grown into some sort of colt already. He has great strength and is very well balanced. He moves exceptionally well and is very athletic.
This athletic filly is from an excellent 2yo family. She is the second foal of the very talented Redoute’s Choice mare Tale of Choice, who in addition to being a 2yo winner, was Gr.2 placed in the Sweet Embrace Stakes at just her third start. Tale of Choice is a full-sister to 2yo winner and Gr.2 placed Raphael’s Cat. The family includes Gr.2 winner CAT BY THE TALE & Gr.3 winner ST CLAIR RIDGE.
She’s also by the world’s leading sire of Stakes winners, who is the only horse to ever be crowned Champion 2yo Sire in both America and Australia. View her pedigree here.
This girl is a lovely, neat filly with very good strength. Being a later foal, we anticipate that she will continue to mature and furnish into a gorgeous type. She is a fantastic mover and possesses a fluent, free action.
CHAMPAGNE HARMONY was a Group 2 winner as a 3yo and won from 1100-1200m. She has had 4 foals to race for 4 winners, including Gr.1 ATC Flight S. placed Sezanne. This colt is from the family of multiple Gr.1 winner ST REIMS, Champion NZ Female CHAMPAGNE and NZ Horse of the Year BONNEVAL. View his pedigree here.
His sire Tavistock has been a very successful stallion, particularly with colts. In his sadly short stud career Tavistock has already been crowned Champion Hong Kong Sire, has sired a Horse of the Year in both Hong Kong and Singapore, and is a current Top 10 Sire by earnings and winners in New Zealand.
This is a lovely colt with good size and scope and he has plenty of strength to go with it. He is quite forward for a Tavistock and is a colt that you could see hitting the track as a later juvenile before really developing into a nice 3yo.
This colt’s mother was an outstanding race mare. She was second in the Gr.1 Blue Diamond Stakes behind Sepoy as a juvenile and went on to win at Group 2 level and was Group 1 placed four times. It is a family which has had a lot of success in juvenile Stakes races and also features Gr.1 Caulfield Guineas winner IN TOP SWING and Gr.3 winner FUDDLE DEE DUDDLE. View his pedigree here.
His sire has been crowned Australia’s Champion Sire three times and has 98 Stakes winners to his name. Snitzel also has a massive 75.2% winners to runners strike rate!
This colt is a good size with nice strength, especially through his hind quarter. He’s a lovely balanced colt and as a late October foal you can certainly expect more development to come.
FARNAN took out the world’s richest 2yo race on March 21.
The $3.5million Golden Slipper Gr.1 is one of the most prestigious 2yo races in the world and this year’s winner FARNAN was raised and sold by Vinery Stud.
Vinery sold Farnan for $550,000 as agent for Phoenix Thoroughbreds (who retained a share) at the 2019 Magic Millions Yearling Sale to Aquis Farm, which is where he’s already destined to stand. “It’s a dream come true. He’s an awesome colt,” Aquis managing director Shane McGrath said.
Pound-for-pound, Vinery is punching well above its weight as one of the leading consignors in Australia. Its who’s who of Group 1 graduates includes Aristia (Victoria Oaks), Shamus Award (Cox Plate), Commanding Jewel (Thousand Guineas), Samaready (Blue Diamond), Atlantic Jewel (All Aged Stakes), Delectation (Darley Classic) & Russian Revolution (The Galaxy). Farnan’s win also comes a year after fellow Vinery graduate Exhilarates won the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic RL.
Farnan (2c Not A Single Doubt – Tallow by Street Cry) gave Gai Waterhouse her 7th Golden Slipper and a first with co-trainer Adrian Bott. “I’m honoured and humbled to win it alongside a legend like Gai,” Bott said. “And to do it with a colt of such quality is really special. Being dominant from the draw was never a worry. He showed that tactical speed and was able to control the race.”
Winning jockey Hugh Bowman also thanked Gai for his first Golden Slipper. “The preparation was second to none. I’ve been lucky enough to ride some really good horses but I haven’t ridden a better two-year-old.
“His professionalism is one thing but his ability is another. When I asked for full throttle at the furlong, he responded and responded in style.”
Bott confirmed Farnan will go for a spell safe in the knowledge he will be crowned Champion Australian 2YO for 2019-20. He went into the Golden Slipper as a $4.80 favourite following Group 2 victories in the Silver Slipper and Todman Stakes and he signs off with 5 wins in 6 starts going back to an impressive debut at Canberra in November.
