Belvoir Bay wins the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint
Equiano mare set new course record for five furlongs on turf.
Gary Barber’s Belvoir Bay beat back the boys in front-running fashion Nov. 2, scoring by 1 1/4 lengths to take home the winning trophy in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1T) at Santa Anita Park.
Om got up for second, a nose ahead of Shekky Shebaz in third. Final time for the five-furlong grass test was :54.83—a new course record for the distance on turf.
Trained by Peter Miller and ridden by Javier Castellano, the Turf Sprint was the first race back for the 6-year-old daughter of Equiano since she finished fourth in the Jaipur Invitational Stakes (G1T) June 8 at Belmont Park.
