Denying the Ballydoyle threat in game fashion, Abdullah Al Maddah’s Mkfancy (Fr) (Makfi {GB}) made all to reward Theo Bachelot’s enterprise with a first group 1 win for the rider in Saturday’s G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud. Ten furlongs on this deep surface was always going to present a severe test for juveniles and the Sept. 27 mile course conditions winner kept finding in front to see off Mythical (Fr) (Camelot {GB}) and then Arthur’s Kingdom (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) in the straight. At the line, the bay had three lengths to spare over the latter, with a half length back to Mythical as the remainder were spread out.

RAIN THREATENS SATURDAY ACTION (ENG, DONCASTER)

By Tom Frary

Saturday’s cards at Doncaster and Newbury could be abandoned due to the heavy swathe of rain crossing Britain, with morning inspections planned at both venues. If racing goes ahead, TDN Rising Stars Mogul (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) and Kinross (GB) (Kingsman {GB}) will have to deal with extremely testing conditions as they tackle the G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy and G3 Cancom S., or Horris Hill as it is better known. Mogul, who comes into Doncaster=s juvenile feature on the back of a win in Leopardstown=s G2 Champions Juvenile S. Sept. 14, is one of five from Ballydoyle taking on one outside rival in Kameko (Kitten=s Joy). Aidan O=Brien requires one more win in the race to equal the record of 10 set by the late Sir Henry Cecil and Qatar Racing=s Aug. 31 G3 Solario S. and Sept. 28 G2 Royal Lodge S. runner-up is the only obstacle in his way. The Ballydoyle handler, whose second string appears to be the Sept. 29 G2 Beresford S. winner Innisfree (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), said, AInnisfree travels well. We always thought he was a Classic horse and he=s been working nice since the Beresford. We thought this would be the logical race for him. Mogul has been progressing with every run–they are both smart colts. They are still on the upgrade and when they are doing that you don=t know who is going to progress the most.@
