Goffs London Sale – Bring Your Colours!

Buyers at Monday’s Goffs London Sale in association with QIPCO could be heading straight for Royal Ascot as fourteen horses in training will be offered with engagements at the Royal meeting.

The British Horseracing Authority will work with the new owners of any horse purchased with a Royal Ascot engagement to process the change of ownership in time for the horse to race in the new owner’s colours.

In preparation, anybody wishing to purchase a horse with an entry for Royal Ascot must already be registered as an owner with the BHA in order for the horse to run in their name.  If the owner is registered with another recognised Racing Authority this must be verified in advance of the sale.

For queries please contact Weatherbys Ownership Desk on +44 1933 440077.  The full details of ownership transfer arrangements can be downloaded here.

The London Sale catalogues features 23 lots comprising 3 mares, 2 barrier trial winning two-year-olds and eighteen horses in training.  Fourteen of the horses in training hold Royal Ascot entries, and they are:

Following an extraordinary two days at Goffs, Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“Yesterday’s amazing Land Rover Part 1, which returned an unmatched median price of €45,000 and a stunning 91% clearance rate, was always going to be a hard act to follow as we moved to Part 2 of the Land Rover Sale. However we have enjoyed another lively day of trade with an improved clearance rate of 80% and double digit advances in both the average and median prices. Indeed the last two days have really cemented the Land Rover Sale’s position as a genuine first choice for so many vendors and purchasers with growth in every area.

Once again we would like to pay tribute to our vendors who have supported us with so many of their best Three-Year-Olds over the two days and thank our huge group of buyers, so many of whom travelled across from the UK including several new high profile faces. Their attendance was prompted by another superb season on the track for Land Rover graduates with 10 Grade 1 winners and a sixth successive year of being the most successful store sale at the Cheltenham Festival whilst our graduates also led the way at Aintree and Punchestown. The competition from start to finish was a tribute to the horses supplied by our vendors and the supreme efforts of the Goffs Team working in tandem with Irish Thoroughbred Marketing.

For the third year in a row Highflyer proved to be the leading buyer and we extend our thanks to David Minton, Anthony Bromley, Tessa Greatrex and their huge band of clients. At this juncture I know that Anthony and Tessa will not mind me making special mention of Minty who is in his 50th year as an agent and did not leave his usual spot in the sales ring for the entire 11 hours yesterday; a simply amazing feat as he strives to find the next Altior!

The Land Rover Sale is one of the true success stories of recent years and we look forward to shouting home this year’s graduates at the Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown Festivals of 2020 and beyond. For now we just say to all participants – buyers, sellers, grooms and our own team:
THANK YOU!”

Extraordinary Trade On Opening Day Of Goffs Land Rover Sale
A clearance rate of 91% and a surge in median and six figure sales told the story of a record opening day at Goffs Land Rover Sale.

Consistently strong trade throughout today’s session was topped by Rathmore Stud’s Yeats half-brother to multiple Graded winner Tombstone and own-brother to Listed hurdle winner Tintangle (Lot 113 - pictured).  The gelding was sold to trainer Martin Brassil for €185,000.  Clifton Farm provided the next highest priced lot in Tfou (Lot 133), a son of Authorized and a half-brother to a Listed Hurdle winner in France that was purchased by Nicky Richards for €180,000.

Martin Brassil signs for the sales topping Yeats gelding from Rathmore Stud
Paul Nicholls and Tom Malone accounted for several of the 15 six figure stores, which included Pine Tree Stud’s Fame And Glory half-brother to Grade 1 Bumper winner Tornado Flyer from the family of Hurricane Fly (Lot 218) bought for €175,000; as well as a Valirann gelding out of Grade 2 winner Brogella (Lot 92) from Springhill Stud for €155,000 and a Milan gelding from the top class Ballyreddin Stud draft for €150,000 (Lot 76).

Another to make the €155,000 mark was Ballincurrig House Stud’s son of Flemensfirth from the family of dual Champion Chaser Master Minded that sold to Milestone Bloodstock (Lot 162).

Following the record opening day of the Land Rover Sale, Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“Extraordinary. That was the way we summed up this day 12 months ago when the Land Rover record was broken on three occasions headed by an amazing high of €325,000.  Against that background, never mind the ongoing political uncertainties and several other factors, it was always going to be a stretch to get close to the 2018 record breaking stats especially when this year’s top price would only have come in at number six at Land Rover 18.

So for the average to have held steady at €48,386 and to have returned a median price that has risen by 18% to a staggering €45,000 is an incredible achievement and points to a sale of extraordinary depth, quality and consistency, the like of which is simply unprecedented at any sale. This amazing figure flows from a massive clearance rate of 91% whilst the number of six figure transactions grew again and those realising €50,000 or over advanced by 30 to a stunning 103.

These results are only possible with the help of several groups. The vendors trusted us with a catalogue of unparalleled quality that appealed to the biggest group of buyers ever to have descended on Kildare Paddocks for a NH sale so we thank both sides of the auction equation most sincerely and then salute the superb graduates of previous Land Rover Sales that included 10 individual Grade 1 winners in the past season so cementing the sales reputation for market leading success”.

American Pharoah winner Maven and Derby Day winner Le Don De Vie added to quality Goffs London Sale

The complete catalogue for Goffs London Sale in association with QIPCO is now available online and has received a number of noteworthy additions in the past 24 hours.

The Wesley Ward trained two-year-old Maven (Lot 22), a winner of his only start at Aqueduct and the first USA winner for sire American Pharoah, has been confirmed for the eve of Royal Ascot sale and will be offered with an entry in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes.

Le Done De Vie (Lot 18) from the Andrew Balding stable is another intriguing entry having won both his starts this season, most recently on Derby Day at Epsom.  He looks a high-class middle distance international racing prospect.

Group winner Sestilio Jet (Lot 14), most recently runner-up in a Group 2 at Chantilly for trainer Andrea Marcialis following a Group 3 win over 5 furlongs at Longchamp, is also catalogued.

A pair of Royal Ascot-bound juveniles from Michael O’Callaghan Racing complete the line-up for London.  Isabeau (Lot 20) looked a smart filly when winning on her debut on 31 May and goes for either the Queen Mary or the Windsor Castle Stakes.  Red Epaulette (Lot 21), winner of the opening 2yo race of the Irish season and placed on both subsequent starts, is also bound for London and he will be aimed at the Windsor Castle Stakes.
