The purchase of a filly by champion sire Snitzel from the G1-winning mare Samaready has marked Godolphin’s return to the Australian sales scene at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale after an eight-year absence.

The filly is one of four Godolphin purchases at the sale so far, along with a colt by English Derby winner Sea The Stars from the Australian-bred, G1-winning sprinter Shamal Wind, a colt by Dawn Approach from the Stakes-winning mare Very Discreet and a colt by Not A Single Doubt from My Sydney Rose.

Godolphin racing and bloodstock manager in Australia Jason Walsh said all four would add diversity to the Australian team under the care of trainer James Cummings.

“We’re delighted to be back involved in a more significant way with Sheikh Mohammed’s support,” Walsh said.

“We’ve managed to secure a top-class filly by Snitzel out of the Group 1 winning mare Samaready who we felt was one of the fillies of the sale. We’re ecstatic to be taking her home.”

The filly consigned by Vinery Stud, won six races including the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes and G1 AJ Moir Stakes and was named Australia’s champion female sprinter of 2013-14. 

Godolphin went to A$600,000 for the filly.

Walsh also signed for the Dawn Approach colt, a $450,000 purchase from the Mill Park draft. 

“We’re delighted to be taking home this outstanding son of Dawn Approach whose had a great start for us with two Saturday-class two-year-old winners in Sydney – Gongsand Condemned.

“We felt this colt was very athletic with a strong pedigree and off a great farm. We couldn’t be more excited to be adding him to our racing program this year,” Walsh said.

“Our third significant purchase was a very well-bred colt from Newgate Farm by the international sire Sea The Stars from the Australian Group 1 winning mare Shamal Wind.”

 “He provides diversity to our racing portfolio being by a top-class European stallion out of a very well bred and talented colonial daughter of Dubawi.

“We thought he represented great value and we look forward to watching him develop under the care of James Cummings.”

Godolphin bid $325,000 to secure the colt.

All three were offered on day two of the sale, with Godolphin also purchasing the Not A Single Doubt colt at the opening session for $200,000.

Cummings welcomed the potential additions to his team, showing particular interest in the Snitzel-Samaready filly.

“She’s a quality filly and I don’t think we could have bought a filly out of a faster mare at the sale,” Cummings told Racing.com.

“It certainly fits with what His Highness Sheikh Mohammed is trying to do here in Australia.
