2017 Ebor Festival dates – The full schedule for York
NEW FIXTURE FOR 2017 AT YORK
The publication of the national horseracing fixture list for the 2017 season, sees the now traditional seventeen day season at York, boosted by the addition of Saturday 1 July 2017, becoming an eighteenth date to enjoy the Knavesmire.
York’s flagship meeting, The Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival, offers four spectacular days of racing action from Wednesday 23 to Saturday 26 August with the richest, fastest, oldest and most famous races of the season.
The season will get underway on Wednesday 17 May with the three day Dante Festival providing a more than £1 million in prize money to deliver a high quality start to the action, as contenders for the upcoming Classics establish their credentials.
The new date will form part of the series of popular summer meetings that offer Fridays and Saturdays from late May to the end of July; culminating in the Music Showcase Weekend, when the stage will be in position for Friday evening 28 July as well as Saturday 29 July.
The only Sunday of the season will be 10 September with the season concluding at the final two day meeting on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 October.
Viewed as a whole, given the centerpieces of Dante and Ebor, York offers seven festival days of which six are staged on midweek days. A further three Friday afternoons offer a relaxed opportunity to enjoy the award winning stands, lawns and flowers, with a single Sunday, a sole evening and seven popular Saturday afternoons, completing the line up.
Detailed plans for the whole season, including the new date, will be developed once the 2016 season is concluded.
Commenting on the announcement of the fixture list, Chief Executive and Clerk of the Course, William Derby said; “York is proud to offer more than £7 million in prize money this season across a race programme of real depth; with thirty black type contests and valuable opportunities for maidens, novices, juveniles, sprinters and stayers over distances from five furlongs to more than two miles. I hope we offer the same choice to racegoers, with a season that blends midweek festival dates, relaxed Friday afternoons, a single evening and Sunday, with the popular and vibrant atmosphere of Saturdays.”
