Ballymacoll Mares Confirmed for Goffs November Sale |
Four Ballymacoll mares have been confirmed for the Goffs November Sale. This is part of the farm’s dispersal that began with the sale of five lots at this year’s Goffs February Sale. That draft was topped by Edith Wharton who was sold to Andy Smith and White Birch for €200,000, and Goffs are delighted to have the privilege of offering four more high calibre Ballymacoll mares which will again be consigned by Jockey Hall Stud this November. They are as follows:
Commenting on the Ballymacoll November draft, Goffs Group Chief Executive, Henry Beeby said: “We are delighted to be further involved in the dispersal of the iconic Ballymacoll broodmare band. The first part sold extremely well at Goffs in February, and this quartet offers a further opportunity to share in the legacy of such a successful breeding programme”. The 2016 Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale recorded some of the best figures seen in recent years and was its strongest ever renewal, with an 89% clearance rate and several new top level international investors who exclusively visited Goffs.

Goffs Orby 1-2 in Gr.1 Sussex Stakes |
Graduates of Goffs Orby Sale enjoyed a 1-2 in the prestigious Group 1 Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood yesterday as the Andrew Balding-trained Here Comes When battled through the challenging conditions to win by a neck for owner Mrs Fitri Hay, leading home fellow Orby graduate Ribchester who ran on well to second place after losing his spot on the rail. Here Comes When was sold in the 2011 Orby Sale by Grove Stud to Hugo Merry Bloodstock for €170,000. His win in the Sussex Stakes brings his total tally to four black type wins, including his now Gr.1 win and two Gr.2 wins.
Winner of the Gr.1 Lockinge Stakes and Gr.1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot on his last 2 starts, the Richard Fahey trained Ribchester is the world’s highest rated horse to have been sold at auction in Europe. He was first sold as a foal by Kilmore Stud to Jamie Railton Bloodstock for €78,000, and was then re-sold as a yearling to Highfield Farm for €105,000. Ribchester was purchased privately in 2015 by Godolphin. This year’s Orby Sale takes place from 26 – 27 September and the catalogue will be available online from next Wednesday 9 August.
