The Coral-Eclipse is famed for being the first time that the British classic generation can face their older peers at Group 1 level – stars to have landed the Coral-Eclipse in recent years include Sea The Stars, Hawk Wing, the Australian champ So You Think, Nathaniel, Al Kazeem and Mukhadram and Golden Horn. Going further back, Coral-Eclipse champions include such legends as Mill Reef, Brigadier Gerard, Dancing Brave and Saddler’s Wells. It really is one of the most fascinating and important races of the flat season.

MARTEDÌ 4 LUGLIO 2017. Inghilterra: Sabato le Coral-Eclipse da Sandown, primo confronto intergenerazionale al massimo livello. Chi ci sarà..

Sabato a Sandown va in scena una corsa molto interessante, che di fatto apre la stagione dei confronti intergenerazionali al massimo livello. Il palcoscenico sarà quello delle Coral-Eclipse G1, da sempre test dove si mettono in concorrenza i migliori 3 anni contro i migliori anziani nel primo test severo. Si corre sulla distanza dei 2000 metri ed al momento sono in 16 i rimasti in attesa dell’ultimo forfait e della dichiarazione ufficiale dei partenti. Alcune certezze le abbiamo già. 

La prima riguarda il fatto che tra i partecipanti c’è molto più interesse tra i giovani che di fatto catalizzano l’attenzione dell’evento. Al via infatti dovrebbe esserci Barney Roy (Excelebration), allenato da Richard Hannon, vincitore delle St James Palace’s Stakes G1 al Royal Ascot dopo il piazzamento nelle 2000 Ghinee G1. Conferme arrivano anche da Ballydoyle, seppure in maniera mooolto filtrata, per la presenza di Cliffs Of Moher (Galileo) che ha saltato appositamente il Derby irlandese ed è attualmente il favorito dell’antepost. Dal quartier generale di Aidan O’Brien si parla anche delle candidature di Orderofthegarter (Galileo) e Taj Mahal (Galileo), come probabili partecipanti. Sylvester Kirk ha lasciato dentro Salouen (Canford Cliffs), deludente sinora nei grandi appuntamenti, e il Mark Johnston Permian (Teofilo) che sicuramente una capatina a Sandown la farà.

Al via di sicuro c’è Eminent (Frankel), quarto nel Derby di Epsom in qualche maniera, che avrà in sella Silvestre De Sousa in luogo di Jim Crowley il quale, avendo un contratto con Hamdan Al Maktoum, non poteva certamente lasciare fino all’ultimo in sospeso la questione con Martyn Meade, allenatore di Eminent. Ricordiamo che i giovani ricevono in questa corsa 10 libbre dai vecchi. Si preannuncia una bella sfida.

Tra gli anziani non ci sono nomi da capogiro ma solide certezze comunque: Come Lightning Spear (Pivotal), che dovrebbe esserci, poi Decorated Knight (Galileo) in palla, Desert Encounter (Halling) e la femmina Blond Me (Tamayuz) che abbiamo anche visto a Capannelle come np del Lydia Tesio G1. Tra gli anziani di Coolmore forse ri-allungherà Deauville (Galileo), si rivedrà ad una settimana Johannes Vermeer(Galileo), mentre Sir Michael Stoute non ha ancora sciolto tutti i dubbi su Ulysses (Galileo), stessa cosa per David Simcock in relazione ad Algometer (Archipenko), comunque a 66/1. Non ci sarà sicuramente Jack Hobbs (Halling), per il quale John Gosden ha fatto forfait dopo la brutta prestazione nelle Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.
