Arrogate, who became the all-time leading money earner with his sensational Dubai World Cup success in March, is set to have his first start since Meydan in the TVG San Diego Handicap at Del Mar on July 22.

The Juddmonte Farms-owned world champion, who blew the start in Dubai before circling his 13 rivals en route to registering a stunning victory, is being lined up for three races at the Californian track, which stages the Breeders’ Cup for the first time in November.

“The TVG San Diego is our likely next stop if all goes well,” said trainer Bob Baffert.

“We’ll take him to Del Mar for the summer and if he gets back in action in the TVG San Diego, that could be a good prep for the Pacific Classic [August 19] and then possibly the Breeders’ Cup Classic [November 4].”

Should he contest the 1m½f San Diego Handicap, Arrogate – officially rated the world’s best horse – will be dropping back to the shortest distance he has encountered since winning an allowance race at Del Mar last August.

Since then the four-year-old has extended his winning spree to seven, with four top-flight successes taking his earnings through the $17 million barrier.

Prior to the $10 million Dubai World Cup, Arrogate won the Travers Stakes, Breeders’ Cup Classic and inaugural running of the world’s richest race, the $12m Pegasus World Cup.
