Ora parliamo anche un pò di Francia, perchè tra sabato e domenica sono in programma le Classiche da Deauville. Si parte sabato 13 con le Poule d’Essai des Pouliches per femmine di 3 anni sul miglio, mentre domenica sarà il turno dei maschi delle Poule d’Essai des Poulains. 

 

Andiamo con ordine e parliamo della giornata di sabato, dove tra le femmine la prima novità è rappresentata dalla defezione della inglese Dabyah (Sepoy), vincitrice delle Fred Darling Stakes G3 al rientro, tirata via dalle possibili a causa di una endoscopia non pulita dopo il lavoro di rifinitura non soddisfacente. Dabyah, allenata da John Gosden, è di proprietà di Abdullah Saeed Al Naboodah attraverso il quale sono filtrate le spiegazioni della sua prossima assenza. Dabyah a 2 anni era finita terza nel Marcel Boussac ed era rientrata con una vittoria, le migliori premesse possibili. Il suo obiettivo ora sarà quello delle Coronation Stakes G1 al Royal Ascot. 

 

Sono state comunque confermate le partecipanti alle Abu Dhabi Poule d’Essai des Pouliches sul miglio in pista dritta di Deauville. Chi succederà alla campionessa La Cressonniere? Al momento sono in 19 le rimaste in attesa di concreta ufficializzazione e distribuzione degli steccati. Andre Fabre è dentro con Via Ravenna (Raven’s Pass), di una famiglia che ha radici in Ribot, mentre Aidan O’Brien sguinzaglierà Rain Goddess (Galileo), pagata €600,000 da puledra, e soprattutto Roly Poly (War Front), piazzata di G1 a 2 anni ma rientrata così così a Newmarket dietro Daban, poi terza nelle 1000 Ghinee di Newmarket….

 

Jean Claude Rouget sellerà Toulifaut (Frankel), rientrata 4° a Chantilly nel Prix de la Grotte G3 vinto da Senga (Blame), che avrà in sella Cristian Demuro, mentre molta curiosità desta Delectation (Delegator), imbattuta in 3 uscite e molto stimata da Andreas Wohler. Gerald Mosse dovrebbe montare Cristal Fyzz (Power) per Willy Haggas, imbattuta in 2 uscite. IL CAMPO PARTENTI DELLE POULE D’ESSAI DES POULICHES QUI.

 

Domenica al via ci saranno i maschi delle Poule d’Essai des Poulains G1. Anche qui c’è una novità: Il favorito Brametot (Rajsaman), battuto solo una volta in 5 uscite, è stato acquistato dalla Al Shaqab Racing per i cui colori correrà in una operazione a metà tra Sheikh Joaan Al Thani che ha acquistato il 50% dell’ex o quasi portacolori di Gerard Augustin Normand che a sua volta era a metà con Elisabeth Vidal. Impressionante vincitore del Prix de Fontainebleau G3, fu pagato da puledro per €26,000, avrà in sella Cristian Demuro. Da capire il reale valore di Brametot, in una edizione che per ora non sembra stellare della Classica francese.

 

La domanda è: Chi succederà a The Gurkha (Galileo), impressionante la scorsa stagione? Al momento sono rimasti in 15 prima della dichiarazione partenti ufficiale ma filtrano alcune certezze come National Defense (Invincible Spirit) vincitore del Lagardere G1, poi Rivet (Fastnet Rock) che ha preferito correre a Deauville invece che Newmarket, poi ancora dentro ci sono Caravaggio (Scat Daddy), anche se questo sembra possa correre ad Ascot sulla velocità, poi Orderofthegarther (Galileo), Peace Envoy (Power) etc.. per il Coolmore

In argomento Francia diamo conto anche di una buona conferma avvenuta nella giornata di mercoledì a Chantilly con la vittoria di Ratiocination (Excelebration), vincitore già al debutto a metà Aprile e confermatosi ancora con stile nel Prix de la Broutillerie sul miglio, sulla strada per il Jean Prat G1. Ratiocination è un homebred dei Niarchos, allenato da Pascal Bary, prodotto della campionessa Denebola (Storm Cat), vincitrice di Boussac, della famiglia di Bago (Nashwan) e Maxios (Monsun).

Ieri in Inghilterra ne sono successe di cose. Partiamo dalla fine della giornata, quando a Chelmsford c’era da vedere una condizionata sul polytrack che serviva per capire se Dylan Mouth (Dylan Thomas) potesse rinascere in una nuova vita da stayer, in una prova sui 2800 metri, dopo le delusioni della stagione. Il portacolori Effevi non è andato oltre ad un terzo posto contro cavalli normali, sotto la spinta decisa e continua di Andrea Atzeni, in una corsa vinta da Harrison (Sixties Icon) per Mick Channon, un cavallo dal valore 103 di Official Rating. Insomma, non è andata granchè bene. Capiremo a breve cosa farà: Se opterà per una sosta rigenerativa oppure lo vedremo lo stesso nel Gran Premio Milano G2. Certo è che allenarsi a Newmarket, un pò di lucidità la toglie se non sei il top dei top. Stiamo a vedere cosa deciderà la proprietà per lui, a questo punto.

Comunque, ieri alla fine i binocoli erano puntati sul day 1 di Chester. La prova più interessante erano le Cheshire Oaks Lr (VIDEO QUI) vinte in maniera superlativa da Enable (Nathaniel), una portacolori Juddmonte allenata da John Gosden, che aveva Frankie Dettori in sella. Enable, partita dallo stallo 3, ha seguito il gruppo senza forzare la mano ma essendo Chester un tracciato particolare, si è dovuta completamente fidare dell’esperienza del suo interprete che quando l’ha chiamata a palo lontano l’ha messa in condizione di esprimere la sua lunga progressione, respingendo sempre la favorita Alluringly (Fastnet Rock) per Aidan O’Brien. 

 

La vincitrice è una figlia di Nathaniel (Galileo), prima stakes winner per suo padre, prodotto della fattrice Concentric (Sadler’s Wells) della famiglia di Flintshire (Dansili) e Spanish Moon (El Prado). In 3 corse disputate ne ha vinte 2, perdendo solo al rientro per difetto di condizione. Insomma, ticket per le Oaks staccato in pieno. A proposito di Principe Khalid Abdullah, riportiamo una notizia di qualche giorno fa che deve far riflettere. Secondo il Racing Post Juddmonte ha venduto una corsa come 1460 acri di terra in Berkshire e Kentucky, in particolare in Inghilterra dove tutto ha avuto inizio nel 1982 con l’acquisto dei primi terreni dove è nata l’industria allevatoria più funzionale del mondo, forse. Comunque nessuna volontà di chiudere ma solo “ottimizzare” per allevare al meglio possibile. Il Principe, 79 anni, pare non stia granchè bene ed i suoi figli e nipoti non nutrono alcun interesse per i cavalli da corsa. Chi ha il pane, non ha i denti. Pazienza, godiamocelo fino a che ci regalerà queste perle.

Oggi in programma c’è il Chester Vase G3 con Cunco al via, poi le Huxley Stakes. Venerdì le Dee Stakes e le Ormonde Stakes sulla lunga distanza, con in pista Cosmelli contro Us Army Ranger……. non scherziamo.

Parlando di Oaks prossime annunciamo pure che dall’America arriva una novità che riguarda la 3 anni Daddys Lil Darling (Scat Daddy), seconda nelle Kentucky Oaks G1 vinte da Abel Tasman, in procinto di venire in Europa per correre le Oaks di Epsom del 2 Giugno. A confermarlo il trainer Kenny McPeek il quale ha confermato di essere pronto a disrbigare tutte le pratiche per la partenza, motivando la decisione di ritenere la sua in grado di fare bene in erba. Il papà è Scat Daddy che ha dato Lady Aurelia, No Nay Never e Caravaggio campioni in erba, mentre la mamma è Miss Hot Salsa (Houston), che ha sempre fatto benissimo in erba. Tentativo da osservare con curiosità.

Homeserve Dee Stakes (Listed Race) | 1m2½f | 3yo | ITV4/RUK 

As a Derby trial, the Dee Stakes has had little bearing on the Epsom showstopper since Kris Kin did the double in 2003 but there is good reason to believe Friday’s contest could have the biggest impact any race has had on a Classic market all week.

With the Investec-backed Derby in mind, it will come as little surprise to hear most of the intrigue surrounds yet another son of super sire Galileo from Aidan O’Brien’s all-star Ballydoyle stable in Tipperary. 

The colt in question is Cliffs Of Moher, the mount of Ryan Moore and who is a general 8-1 third-favourite for the Derby having impressed with a wide-margin success in a Leopardstown maiden last October.  

O’Brien chases a sixth win in the race, yet not one of of his five previous Derby winners progressed from the Dee Stakes.

Statistics are there to be rewritten, though, and whereas O’Brien saddled four in Thursday’s Chester Vase – perhaps unsure of the pecking order – Cliffs Of Moher goes it alone for the man who has already pocketed the first two Classics of the season with the minimum fuss.

O’Brien, who heads the Derby market with 2,000 Guineas winner Churchill, said: “We always liked him last year and he was very green the first time before winning by nearly six lengths from Orderofthegarter, who is a very smart colt.

“We weren’t sure whether we were going to get him out but if he was going to be ready for the Derby he had to run this week. He’s just ready to start and will have to learn a lot here in a short time but we’ve been very happy with his work at home.”

Sir Michael Stoute was the last man to compete the Dee-Derby double with Kris Kin in 2003 and unleashes another Derby entry in this year’s race courtesy of Mirage Dancer.

The similarities do not stop there, as like Kris Kin 14 years ago, Mirage Dancer goes into the Dee off the back of a 7f maiden success at Doncaster last October.

A 33-1 shot for the Derby, he is yet another talented son of Frankel and, like his father, carries the famous silks of Prince Khalid Abdullah.

Lord Grimthorpe, the owner’s racing manager, said of the Juddmonte homebred: “He’s a work in progress. He’s a scopey horse and took a little bit of time to come to hand this year but Michael has been pleased with him and we hope whatever he does he will continue progressing.”

The Derby entries do not stop there, with connections of Fujaira Bridge and Star Of Rory also clutching golden tickets to the greatest Flat race in the world.

Having shown promise in three runs as a juvenile, including a second to subsequent 2,000 Guineas runner-up Barney Roy, Fujaira Bridge was off the mark at Ripon on his seasonal reappearance.

Trainer Roger Varian said: “He’s a promising horse who will like the ground. The step up in trip should suit him, for all this is a jump in class.”

Having failed to handle the track at Epsom last year, the Derby might not be on Star Of Rory’s agenda but representing Chester specialist Tom Dascombe, warrants respect.

Dascombe said: “I thought he was one of my best chances of the week, especially if we get a bit of rain. I like this horse a lot and expect him to progress as the season goes on.”

Bay Of Poets has already tested his Classic credentials when third behind Derby second-favourite Cracksman in Epsom’s trial last month, with the runner-up Permian already franking the form with an easy success at Newmarket since.

“I was pleased with his first run,” said trainer Charlie Appleby. “At the present time, a mile and a quarter is his optimum trip.”

Richard Hannon, who bids for back-to-back wins in the Dee with Majeste having struck last year with Viren’s Army, said: “He has developed well over the winter but off his work is suggesting he wants further.

“He ran no sort of race at Newmarket and so I will need to see how he runs before deciding where we are with him.”

Chester Cup-winning trainer Andrew Balding bids to cap a fine week with Max Zorin and said: “He has come on a bundle from his run in the Feilden Stakes. He’s won at the track and the extra furlong should be to his advantage.”

Fast ground could see Apex King head to Lingfield on Saturday instead, while Marco Botti fears Al Hamdany may find the opposition a little hot to handle.
