Debutto vincente di Cracking Art nel Premio Cernobbio, maiden sui 1000 metri in pista dritta per cavalli di 2 anni: il portacolori di Aldo e Carlo Borsani, con Dario Vargiu in sella per il training della Il Cavallo in Testa, è partito veloce guadagnando subito lo steccato e ai 200 finali ha allungato per staccare i rivali. Red Velvet ha provato a tastare il polso al rivale a traguardo lontano, ma negli ultimi metri ha pagato lo sforzo ed è stato rimontato da Absolute Silence. Quarto a contatto Rumba Star, mai della partita Buonconsiglio.
Dopo il rientro prudente, Eola della Plata ha dominato i coetanei nel Premio Verderio, sulla distanza dei 2000 metri in pista circolare: la cavalla di Luciano Vitabile, con Pierantonio Convertino in sella, ha piazzato bella progressione in retta passando facile già al paletto dei 200 finali. King Beauty ha corso al comando, ha retto il pressing deciso di Idroscalo sulla piegata finale, in retta non ha potuto parare l’affondo della vincitrice ma ha salvato il secondo posto dal ritorno di Armadillo.
Amazzoni e cavalieri protagonisti nel Premio Giorgio Macchi, sui 1400 metri in dirittura: da favorito, non ha deluso le attese Brillante Blu, montato da Cristiano Fais che ne è anche l’allenatore e il proprietario. A ridosso dei primi, il 4 anni è intervenuto nel finale per piegare un coriaceo George Rooke, costantemente in prima linea. Jak du Lac è progredito lungo lo steccato e ha preceduto per il terzo posto Sempreverde.
Si è risolto con una spettacolare volata conclusiva il Premio Basiano, handicap per cavalli di tre anni sui 1500 metri in pista circolare: la zampata vincente l’ha piazzata un progredito Time Sky, montato con perfetta scelta di tempo da Carletto Fiocchi per battere negli ultimi metri la coraggiosa Aunt Sanpa, in testa sin dal via. Vicinissimi Hartswell, Sopran Luna, Doncaster Magic, Brema e una poco fortunata Beauty Rocks.
A dieci anni suonati, Tony’s Power è ancora capace di piazzare la zampata vincente: il portacolori della Crossing Promotion, allenato da Valentino Ficara e montato da Pierantonio Convertino, sulla distanza dei 2600 metri e su un terreno gradito ha firmato la vittoria nr. 18 della sua splendida carriera, dominando un’ottima Amelin che sul ritmo blando imposto da Quebec aveva mosso a metà percorso costringendo il battistrada ad allungare. Amelin è passata ai 300 finali, ma poco ha potuto sulla zampata del vecchio leone. Per il terzo posto Zamora ha preceduto Quebec.
Chiusura in bellezza con il Premio Bareggio, splendido handicap sui 1800 metri in pista circolare per anziani: sempre molto giocata di recente, Pizzo Carbonara ha finalmente colpito il bersaglio al termine di una veemente progressione con la quale ha arginato Santa Serena, molto trascurata al betting. In sella alla cavalla allenata da Giorgia Lamberti, Pierantonio Convertino ha firmato il terzo successo del pomeriggio. Terzo il cronometrico Black Imagin.

When the weanling later to be termed Declarationofpeace went through the ring at Keeneland November in 2015, M.V. Magnier was the determined beneficiary at $2.6 million for the Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency-consigned colt who is tantamount to equine royalty. Descended from the Hall of Famer Serena’s Song, the bay who has grown into an imposing type was a must-have for Magnier who said at the time, “We’ve had a lot of luck with Serena’s Song in the past. He’s a nice horse and comes from a great farm.”
Sent off the 13-8 favourite for his debut over six furlongs at Navan Apr. 24, he was third there behind the Ken Condon trainee Romanised (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) and began this Polytrack bow at 1-4 to have made the necessary progression in the interim. Stalking the leading duo throughout the early stages, the half-brother to the GII American Turf S. and GIII Pilgrim S. winner and GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf runner-up Noble Tune (Unbridled’s Song), MGSW & GISP-US, $492,222, and to the GI Metropolitan H. and GI Whitney S.-winning sire Honor Code (A.P. Indy), Ch. Older Horse & MGISW-US, $2,518,260, took control with 1 1/2 furlongs remaining. Drawing away under hand riding from Seamie Heffernan, Declarationofpeace finished off powerfully to score by six lengths from Qatar Racing’s newcomer Treasuring (GB) (Havana Gold {Ire}).
Aidan O’Brien is planning a trip to the Royal meeting next month. “He’s a fine big fellow. He has a lot of speed,” he told Irish Racing.com. “We’d be thinking of Ascot and if we could get another run into him it would be a help. We could look at the [Listed] Marble Hill [S. at The Curragh May 27] or the [Listed] Rochestown [S. at Naas May 21] for him.”
Aside from boasting Noble Tune and Honor Code as her first two foals, Serena’s Cat has also thrown the stakes-placed Lady Serena (Bernardini). Her triple stakes-winning dam Serena’s Tune also produced the G3 Tetrarch S. and G3 Greenham S. winner Vocalised who stands at Jim Bolger’s Redmondstown Stud and has two classy mares to his name now in Steip Amach (Ire) and Vociferous Marina (Ire). Serena’s Song’s legendary status was assured with a remarkable 11 Grade I victories under the tutelage of D. Wayne Lukas, including the Haskell Invitational and Mother Goose S. and her exploits as a broodmare are also highly significant. Her Grand Reward built on a solid campaign at Ballydoyle to capture the GII Oaklawn H., with fellow graded-stakes winning sires Schramsberg and Harlington complementing Sophisticat (Storm Cat), the impressive winner of the G1 Coronation S. who later produced the listed-winning and graded-stakes placed Sefroua (Kingmambo) and the G1 Cheveley Park S. third Pursuit of Glory (Ire) (Fusaichi Pegasus).
Serena’s Cat was also responsible for the then record-breaking $3 million weanling Tapit filly at Keeneland November later named Serena’s Harmony and who remained unraced for Bridlewood Farm. Her 2016 colt also by Tapit was bought by Baccari Bloodstock for $1,050,000 six months ago and she has been bred back to that Gainesway resident. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $11,658.

Nudged along approaching the final quarter mile, the 2-1 favourite quickened to the fore with 300 metres remaining and surged clear under mild urging to easily best Soaring Eagle (Fr) (Cape Cross {Ire}) by an impressive four lengths. The homebred bay is a son of G1 Prix Marcel Boussac-winning highweight Denebola, herself a daughter of MG1SW French highweight Coup de Folie (Mr. Prospector), whose three stakes performers include Listed Prix Imprudence victress Glia (A.P. Enable went unseen until the epilogue of last term’s juvenile campaign and opened up with a Nov. 28 one-mile score atop Newcastle’s Tapeta surface. She ran into the TDN Rising Star performance of Shutter Speed (GB) (Dansili {GB}) when a fast-finishing third behind that stablemate in a hot 10-furlong Newbury maiden making her only other start on sophomore return Apr. 21, and was the beneficiary of astute tactics from Frankie Dettori to dominate this black-type bow.
Stalking the pace in second until sent to the front with just under three furlongs remaining, the homebred bay was kicked into a decisive lead rounding the home turn and stayed on powerfully in the short straight–as even-money pick Alluringly gave vain chase–to claim this stepping stone to Epsom’s June 2 G1 Investec Oaks. “She’s a very nice filly and is improving all the time,” said Dettori. “I like the way that she quickened and, from 2 1/2 [furlongs] out, she showed a good turn of foot. I saw a bit of daylight and didn’t know how well Alluringly was going so, when I got to 2 1/2 to go, I thought it was time to go. I know she stays so I kicked first and she won well. She’s a very smart filly.” Racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe added, “Frankie thought they were never going a great pace and she was always very comfortable. She travelled particularly well, she quickened and quickened up again. We’re pretty confident she’ll stay a mile-and-a-half, it looked like she could at Newbury and I would think she’ll head to Epsom.
This was pretty much the plan, to some here and get her learning and educated. She started off [the season] at Newbury in really encouraging style, in what was a pretty smart race, and the way she has developed is very pleasing.”
Enable is one of three winners, from as many foals to race, out of Listed Prix Charles Laffitte victress and G3 Prix de Flore runner-up Concentric (GB) (Sadler’s Wells), and is thus a half-sister to G2 Prix de Pomone and G3 Prix Allez France third Contribution (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}). She is also kin to a 2-year-old Dansili (GB) colt, named Centroid (GB), and a yearling filly also by Dansili (GB), and shares her third dam, G3 Prix de Royaumont heroine Apogee (GB) (Shirley Heights {GB}), with MGISW US champion grass horse Flintshire (GB) (Dansili {GB}).
