With a week to go until the Goffs Orby Sale 2016 gets underway, bloodstock and pedigree consultant Clive Webb Carter will take a closer look at some of the world class yearlings on offer through a series of Orby spotlights, starting today with a draft that holds great international appeal…
As one of Europe’s leading consignors, Voute Sales will offer a particularly strong draft at next week’s Goffs Orby Sale which includes not only a Frankel colt, but two lots by the top-class international sireKitten’s Joy.
Goffs has enjoyed a strong association with Frankel having previously sold both his most expensive yearling and foal and with the sensational start the sire has made with his first runners, Frankel fever looks set to hit new highs with his second crop. Lot 265 at the Orby Sale will be no exception being out of the Listed-placed Ship’s Biscuit, who is a half-sister to Group 2 Park Hill Stakes winner Hi Calypso and from the top-class family of Europe’s three-times Champion and dual Arc winnerTreve.
2016 has been a real breakthrough year in Europe for Kitten’s Joy, as the son of El Prado has sired his first European Group 1 winner withHawkbill as well as two other European Stakes winners. Kitten’s Joy’s owners’ Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey have strongly supported their sire in Europe and Voute again consigns their Orby pair. Lot 428 is an own-brother to three Stakes winners including the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Bobby’s Kitten, who also won the Listed Cork Stakes earlier this year and will stand at Lanwades Stud in 2017, whileLot 303, is also an own-sister to three Stakes winners.
The draft also includes a filly by Mizzen Mast out of a winning daughter of Circle Of Gold who is an own sister to the dam of St Leger winner and Derby runner up Rule Of Law (Lot 107).
