Ryan Moore: may return to ride Caravaggio on Sunday

Moore eased for jockeys’ title after taking break
RYAN MOORE has been eased to 5-1 (from 100-30) for the Stobart jockeys’ title by William Hill, with the three-time champion having decided to take a short break from riding.
Moore, who with 57 winners on the board is just one adrift of reigning champion Silvestre de Sousa, has withdrawn from the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup at Ascot this Saturday. He could be back to partner Qipco 2,000 Guineas favourite Caravaggio at the Curragh on Sunday but will first take some time out in Portugal with his family.
Moore’s partner Michelle gave birth to the couple’s fourth child, a baby girl named Heidi, last month and the jockey said: “I won’t be riding this week. I’m going away for a short break and plan to come back on Friday. At this stage, I’m not sure whether I’ll be riding at the Curragh on Sunday.”
Money for title rivals
Betfred also lengthened Moore for the title, going 9-2 (from 100-30), while shortening not just De Sousa (2-7 from 1-3) but also James Doyle (5-1 from 11-2), who is third in the standings with 55 winners.
Ladbrokes have suspended betting on the championship and spokesman David Williams said: “In what is rarely a busy market we saw elevated interest in bets coming through on De Sousa. It quickly became evident that some punters were looking to back De Sousa at any price and the prudent thing to do in those circumstances and on a market like this is to take a breather.”
Last week, Moore enjoyed a tremendous Glorious Goodwood, where walking with a limp did not hamper his effectiveness in the saddle as the man widely regarded as the world’s best jockey booted home eight winners. They included two Group 1 triumphs – and it is big races around the globe that are his priority, rather than domestic titles.
Betfred spokesman Andrew Griffiths said: “Ryan Moore was on fire at Goodwood, but a shortage of rides this week suggests his desire to chase the championship isn’t burning as strongly as others.
“We can’t give him away at 9-2 while the money continues to come for Silvestre de Sousa, for whom a second title is clearly a number one priority.”
