Formidable Minding goes for Nassau glory
BY BRUCE JACKSON, 30 JUL 2016
DUAL Classic winner Minding faces just four rivals as she bids to add the Nassau Stakes to an already glittering three-year-old campaign.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien, who has won the race twice but not since Halfway To Heaven in 2008, said: “Minding has shown she has the pace for the top races at a mile and we know she gets a mile and a half. But she’s comfortable at a mile and quarter, as she showed when winning the Pretty Polly last month.
“It’s very unusual for a horse to be so adaptable but she’s a very special filly. She’s progressing with every run and is a very strong traveller.”
O’Brien added: “We’ve been delighted with her all season and we’re very happy with her going into the Nassau. We’re not looking beyond it. It’s one race at a time and we’ll see how she comes out of it before making further plans.”
The Nassau is one of the few Group 1s in Britain and Ireland to elude Ryan Moore, who won Wednesday’s Sussex Stakes on The Gurkha. He would become the fourth jockey since the turn of the century to do the double, which was most recently achieved by Tom Queally (Frankel and Midday) in 2011.
Moore is unlikely to have a better chance of ticking off another Group 1 than on 2-7 favourite Minding. This has already been a fantastic season for Moore in the big races, having won seven of the 18 flagship races to be run in the Qipco British Champions series so far.
