MERCOLEDÌ 28 OTTOBRE 2015America: Ecco i partenti delle Breeders’ 2015 da Keeneland. American Pharoah partirà dal 4 nel Classic, Golden Horn dall’1 nel Turf

 

 
 
A Keeneland piove. La prossima edizione della Breeders’ Cup dunque si preannuncia almeno un pochino bagnata, nelle premesse. Nella giornata di mercoledì il going è stato annunciato come soft, in seguito alla copiosa pioggia caduta nell’impianto americano. Vale allora la pena fare un piccolo punto della situazione delle corse che, in Italia, potremo proporre solo per la giornata di sabato con totale oscuramento per quelle di venerdì. Nella prima delle 2 giornate, in programma il 30 Ottobre, sono 4 le corse del campionato Breeders’. Alle 20,30 ora italiana c’è il Juvenile Turf G1 con il favorito, al momento, in Hit It a Bomb (War Front), reduce da una bella esibizione in all weather a Dundalk. Un avversario sarà sicuramente Cymric (Kitten’s Joy), americano di concezione, piazzato nel Lagardere G1 di Longchamp. In giornata anche il Dirt Mile, poi il Juvenile Fillies G1 e il Distaff G1 per le femmine di 3 anni ed oltre on una edizione praticamente tutta americana sul dirt. I PARTENTI UFFICIALI CON RELATIVE MONTE QUI.
 
Per quanto concerne la giornata di sabato, il pomeriggio in diretta da Keeneland comincerà alle 17,05 ora italiana con il Juvenile Fillies G1 sul dirt e da vedere è la chance di Rachel’s Valentina (Bernardini) la puledra figlia della campionessa Rachel Alexandra. Il vertice ovviamente sarà quello del Classic (22.35 ora italiana) con il triple Crown hero American Pharoah (Pioneer Of The Nile) alla sua ultima uscita in carriera prima dell’ingresso in razza per il Coolmore America all’Ashford Stud in Kentucky. American Pharoah partirà dallo stallo 4 con il solito jockey Victor Espinoza. Vincitore di 8 delle 10 corse in carriera, è reduce dal secondo nelle Travers G1 di Saratoga a fine Agosto. Tra gli avversari la femmina Beholder (Henny Hughes), vincitrice di due Breeders nel 2012 e 2013 quando era una 2 anni e poi una 3 anni nel Distaff, che partirà dal 10 ed avrà in sella Gary Stevens. La “wild card”, prima dell’ingresso in razza nel 2016, è Gleneagles (Galileo) alla prima esibizione sul dirt e sulla distanza dopo la vittoria nelle 2000 Ghinee, quella nelle St James, i ritiri a Deauville, Goodwood e York e il ritorno ad Ascot infruttuoso per preparare però la corsa americana.. Sarà mica lui che chiama la pioggia? I $5 milioni in palio però garantiranno la sua presenza, ovviamente.
 
La vera star europea sarà però Golden Horn (Cape Cross), vincitore dell’Arc de Triomphe G1, che affonterà la BC Turf G1 (ore 21,50) da $3 milioni ma su terreno forse meno gradito. La pioggia sta allentando un terreno che sarebbe stato perfetto se veloce. Nonostante ciò il cavallo allenato da John Gosden è il favorito e partirà da una posizione favorevole come l’1 di steccato con Frankie, ovviamente, a bordo. Tra gli europei contro avrà ancoraFound (Galileo) mentre Big Blue Kitten (Kitten’s Joy) capeggia l’opposizione americana. Pharoah fever sets in despite wet weather

USA: Swirling wind and heavy rain greeted the arrival of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah but little could dampen the excitement in advance of the three-year-old’s final start in the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday.

American Pharoah was greeted on Tuesday afternoon by around 150 photographers, news crews and journalists when he arrived at Keeneland after flying across from his base in California.

The cold and wet weather in Kentucky has restricted American Pharoah to walking around the barn with his every move watched and recorded by those at the course, but trainer Bob Baffert says conditions are actually preferable to the horse compared to the heat of California.

“He shipped well and everybody’s happy,” Baffert told DRF.com. “I’m sure when the cold air hit him, he probably loved that, too. Horses love that.”

‘I’m so excited, I think I’m going to cry’

It must have been quite a shock to the system as American Pharoah touched down on a wet, thoroughly miserable Keeneland afternoon, stepping down the ramp from the horsebox and through the puddles to his home for the next few days in barn 62.

Behind him in California the weather was 82F and dry. In Lexington it was 54F and raining hard. No doubt as a consequence the bedgraggled group that greeted him did not seem quite on the scale that met the arrival of Zenyatta to Churchill Downs at the 2010 Breeders’ Cup.

But his presence certainly raised a stir at the barn area where one local journalist admitted: “I am so excited I think I am going to cry.”

American Pharoah is favourite to land the $5 million Classic on the dirt on Saturday, with the rain expected to stop before the weekend, letting the surface dry before the big contest.

The Classic will be American Pharoah’s final outing before he retires to Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in nearby Versailles and Baffert admits he would have liked to keep his champion for longer.

“He’s been terrific to us, so it’s going to be sad,” Baffert said. “I’d like to keep him another year or two.”

Connections had considered retiring American Pharoah after his defeat in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga last time out, his first loss of a season when he became the first horse in 37 years to win the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes.

However, the decision was taken to race him one more time and his owner/breeder Ahmed Zayat, said: “It’s sad [it's his last run], but it’s exciting. We became so emotionally attached. I’m just happy that he’s healthy and here.”

Top British hopes shun Lasix at Breeders’ Cup

THE highest-profile British-trained runners at the Breeders’ Cup will not run on Lasix with their connections shunning the anti-bleeding medication at this year’s event.

Golden Horn, Time Test, Secret Gesture, Birchwood, Cymric and Illuminate will race Lasix-free, joining Miss France, Make Believe and Esoterique – whose trainer Andre Fabre has adopted a consistent stance against the drug’s use at every Breeders’ Cup he has contested.

All the Aidan O’Brien-trained challengers, including Gleneagles, and and the David Wachman-trained Legatissimo have been declared to run on Lasix, as well as the rest of the French contingent, plus Britain’s Mondialiste and Nemoralia, who both ran on it on their latest starts in North America.

Efforts to outlaw the use of raceday medication like Lasix in the United States are being championed by the Water, Hay, Oats Alliance. It has the support of many prominent figures in the sport in the US, as well as Golden Horn’s trainer John Gosden and wife Rachel Hood as president of the Racehorse Owners Association.

Opinion in the States, however, is generally divided and on Saturday there will be only three US-based horses not running on Lasix, Sprint joint-favourite Runhappy being the most prominent.

‘It flattened her’

Secret Gesture’s trainer Ralph Beckett has used Lasix in America previously and said: “I ran Look Here in the EP Taylor on Lasix and regretted it. It flattened her and she is a very similar make and shape to Secret Gesture. She didn’t need it in the Beverly D. I think it is great that Andre Fabre leads the way on this issue and I think there should be more of it.”

He added: “I cannot be too dogmatic though. Muhannak [2008 Breeders' Cup Marathon] won on Lasix. He did bleed a little, which was why he ran on it. You tailor it for each horse.”

Hong Kong International Races del 13 Dicembre. Ecco le prime proiezioni dei candidati europei, possibile Kaspersky nel Mile

 
 
In Europa si osserverà il canonico stop invernale, ma il galoppo intorno al mondo non si ferma mai. Ecco Hong Kong ad inizio Dicembre con il Championship delle prove internazionali. Sono stati diramati poche ore fa i vari comunicati sulle probabili presenze e, come al solito, gli europei si gettano a capofitto in un sistema che distribuisce gloria e soldi. Tanti i rappresentanti del vecchio continenti per le corse del 13 Dicembre. Nell’Hong Kong Mile G1 tanti pronti a lanciare l’assalto ad Able Friend eGentleman Only. A parte Kaspersky, che deve essere comunque ufficialmente invitato, degli europei sono Arod, Elm Park e Lighting Spear, per la Qatar Racing, mentre dalla Francia ecco Make Believe ed Esoterique. 
Nella Hong Kong Cup G1 sui 2000 metri Free Eagle affronterà l’ultima corsa della carriera prima dell’ingresso in razza all’Irish National Stud. Al via anche i compatrioti Highland Reel, Max Dynamite e Wicklow Brave i quali tra l’altro hanno ampie carte da giocarsi anche nel Carnival australiano.
Nell’Hong Kong Vase conferme che arrivano da Snow Sky, il quale correrà il 5 Novembre la Melbourne Cup G1, poi Trip To Paris, Red Cadeaux, tutti vincitori a Sha Tin nel 2012. Flintshire, vincitore dello scorso anno, cercherà un bis tra i 76 iscritti. Nella prova sulla velocità sarà interessante vedere il solito confronto con l’Australia. Degli europei Gordon Lord Byron e Sole Power al via, mentre l’Oceania è rappresentata da un cavallo considerato un potenziale fenomeno quale Chautauqua (Encosta De Lago), vincitore delle Manikato Stakes G1 a Moonee Valley il 23 Ottobre scorso in maniera impressionante. Sarà lui l’osservato speciale, possibile un 2016 in Europa, per lui.

Capannelle: Verso il Premio Roma G1 dell’8 Novembre. Sicuri #Tullius ed Energia Davos contro Dylan Mouth..

 
Manca ancora moltissimo, un paio di settimane, ma intanto portiamo a conoscenza degli appassionati quelli che sono i rimasti del Premio Roma GBI Racing del prossimo 8 Novembre a Capannelle. Ad un primo forfait, ma ce ne saranno degli altri, sono in 25 i rimasti e di questi possiamo dare già qualche idea su quello che potrà accadere. Innanzitutto è prevista la presenza di almeno 3 stranieri, con possibili prestigiosi ed ulteriori inserimenti. Già confermato Tullius (Le Vie Dei Colori), in realtà molto italiano per via del fatto che è stato allevato dalla Archi Romani. Allenato da Andrew Balding, vanta un 114 di rating internazionale. Le migliori corse in carriera le ha fatte sul miglio, ma sui 2000 e dintorni ha recentemente vinto a York le York Stakes G2 del 25 Luglio. Insomma, a 7 anni cerca una vittoria in G1. 
 
Tra gli altri stranieri già confermato anche il tedesco Felician e l’inglese Energia Davos (Torrential), un brazilian bred che vanta un 111 di OR, reduce da una vittoria nelle Darley Stakes G3 a Newmarket il 10 Ottobre scorso. E’ un grigio, ha 7 anni, è allenato da Jane Chapple Hyam e in passato è stato nelle mani di Marco Botti per i colori del fu Stefan Friborg, scomparso lo scorso anno. Si tratta di un cavallo che ha cominciato la carriera in Brasile e poi è stato esportato in Inghilterra.
