Luca Cumani: will soon lose Postponed and other horses to Roger Varian

Cumani blow as Sheikh Obaid moves horses
POSTPONED is set for a shock switch of stables after Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum took the decision to move his entire string, including the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner, from Luca Cumani to Roger Varian.
The Racing Post understands Cumani will soon lose all 23 horses he has raced this year for the sheikh, plus a sizeable number of unraced juveniles, after the high-profile owner executed the latest in a series of controversial and unexpected decisions.
Sheikh Obaid’s termination of working relations with Cumani could hardly be more surprising given the Newmarket trainer – who in 1998 saddled the owner’s High-Rise to win the Derby – has this year achieved great things with Postponed, winner of the King George in July.

Come un fulmine a ciel sereno è arrivata una notizia destinata a far discutere. Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum (nella foto), storico proprietario di Luca Cumani, ha deciso di interrompere il rapporto con l’allenatore italiano con effetto immediato, e dunque anche la chance Postponed (Dubawi), vincitore di King George G1 e Foy G2, dunque candidato per l’Arc de Triomphe G1 fra 3 settimane, passerà agli ordini di Roger Varian come tutto il resto del materiale. Notizia che ha destato scalpore, ovviamente, sia per le tempistiche che per i modi, e che comporta una brutta tegola per il trainer italiano che perde in un colpo 23 cavalli tra 2 anni, 3 anni ed anziani. Pare che alla base ci fossero frizioni per la monta di scuderia Adam Kirby…ma lo stesso Cumani si è detto “devastato” per la decisione, soprattutto perchè apparentemente immotivata. Secondo uno statement diffuso sul sito ufficiale (QUI) ha rilasciato le seguenti dichiarazioni: “No reasons have been given to us as to why this decision has been taken after an association that has lasted 20 years and has enjoyed plenty of success from High-Rise winning the Derby in 1998 through to Postponed landing the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes this year. Needless to say, it is a devastating blow for the whole team with the news coming so soon after Postponed’s win in the Prix Foy at the weekend which confirmed he was well on target for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.” I cavalli varcheranno i cancelli di Bedford House per approdare in quelle di Varian, a brevissimo, le Kremlin House Stables con l’ex assistente di Jarvis che ha ovviamente preso bene la news, annunciandolo sul proprio sito ufficiale (QUI). Un duro colpo per l’allenatore italiano..
Sheikh Obaid ha i cavalli da Cumani dal 1997, ha vissuto un momento altissimo grazie alla vittoria di High-Rise nel 1998. Il cugino di Sheikh Mohammed aveva sostituito quest’anno Kirby con Atzeni proprio nelle King George ma già in precedenza aveva qualcosa da ridire sul jockey inglese.
