MERCOLEDÌ 29 LUGLIO 2015Glorious Goodwood, day 2: #Solow di forza piega #Arod nelle Sussex Stakes G1. 4° consecutiva di G1 per il grigio. Nelle Gordon Highland Reel, nelle Molecomb vince Kachy.. la dinastia Dubai Destination come padre di fattrici si infiamma

Solow è una macchina. Il grigio figlio di Singspiel (In The Wings) ha coronato con un’altra vittoria a livello di G1 il poker di affermazioni vincendo anche le QatarSussex Stakes G1 di Goodwood sul miglio da £1 milione in palio, suggellando così la sua crescita con l’ottava vittoria consecutiva in una stagione davvero indimenticabile. Il cavallo allenato da Freddy Head per i colori della famiglia Wertheimer ha battagliato per battere l’italian bred Arod (Teofilo), in sella al quale c’era Andrea Atzeni con quest’ultimo che ha gestito la corsa come al solito in avanti ma senza esagerare, rifiatando e ripartendo in dirittura, ma nulla potendo sul passo di Solow con Maxime Guyon in sella che l’ha tenuto sempre sotto il mirino ma soprattutto facendo capire di aver avuto sempre sotto controllo la situazione. Il grigio si è dimostrato veramente affidabile. Freddy Head sulle prime è rimasto affascinato dalla prestazione del suo dichiarando: “è un grande. Con il passare dell’età diventa sempre più pigro, ma fa il minimo indispensabile per vincere, quello che gli serve. E’ un talento fuori dal comune, un diavolo di cavallo!”. Il tempo finale è stato di 1m 39.18s (slow by 2.98s), un ritmo decisamente non svelto dall’inizio ma con grande progressione finale. IL RISULTATO COMPLETO DELLE SUSSEX QUI. Solow è il primo cavallo francese dopo Bigstone nel 1993 a vincere le Sussex Stakes.

La suite di G1 consecutivi è iniziata a fine Marzo con una sfavillante prestazione nel Dubai Turf G1, proseguito con quella nell’Ispahan G1 e condito in Inghilterra con la vittoria nelle Queen Anne G1 nella giornata inaugurale del Royal Ascot. Il prossimo obiettivo per Solow ed il video della corsa cliccando qui sotto..

Prossimo obiettivo il Champions Day ad Ascot per Solow, mentre per il secondo arrivato Arod ora un pò di pausa e poi un obiettivo francese. Non il Jacques Le Marois per Peter Chapple-Hyam perchè troppo vicino come appuntamento, invece il Moulin G1 di Settembre come vero target per il figlio di Teofilo che molto probabilmente a fine stagione europea volerà in Australia per correre il Cox Plate G1.

Venuto meno il match contro Gleneagles, destinato forse al Jacques Le Marois G1 di Deauville, Solow ha faticato meno del previsto vincendo ad una quota di poco inferiore al mezzo. Terzo è arrivato, guadagnando il massimo risultato possibile pazientando sugli altri in calo, è giunto Gabrial (Dark Angel), estremo outsider del campo. Mai della corsa Belardo mentre l’altro Godolphin Night Of Thunder ci ha provato in retta, ma ai 200 finali si è piantato allargando anche un pochino con l’azione. IL VIDEO DELLE SUSSEX STAKES QUI.

GORDON STAKES: Alla fine è arrivata l’occasione per Highland Reel (Galileo), il quale è riuscito a vincere le Gordon Stakes G3 sul miglio e mezzo di Goodwood faticando ma battendo Scottish (Teofilo) con Disegno (Fastnet Rock) al terzo posto. Reduce dal quinto nell’Irish Derby G1 al Curragh, Highland Reel si è dimostato ancora molto acerbo nella fasi finali della corsa ma mostrando anche la sua qualità di base tornando alla vittoria a Goodwood con in sella Giuseppino O’Brien, dopo che a 2 anni qui aveva vinto le Vintage Stakes G2. Nella stagione ha corso anche le Poule a Longchamp terminando 6°, poi secondo nel Prix du Jockey Club G1 di Chantilly e poi appunto quinto al Curragh. IL VIDEO DELLE GORDON STAKES QUI.
MOLECOMB STAKES: Nelle Molecomb sui 1000 metri per 2 anni da £75,000, arrivo molto acceso con la vittoria che è andata alla fine a Kachy(Kyllachy), ora imbattuto in 2 uscite. Il cavallo di Tom Dascombe, montato da Richard Kingscote, si è giovato della corda che è stata determinante per battere il favorito italian bred King Of Rooks (Acclamation), prodotto di Slap Shot, con Frankie Dettori in sella. Kachy è solo l’ultimo prodotto dell’astro nascente tra i broodmare sires di Dubai Destination (Kingmambo), attuale leader di questa speciale classifica in Inghilterra. Dubai Destination fino a 2 anni fa funzionava come stallone oramai a €2,500, poi è stato venduto in Arabia Saudita. Nellla stagione è padre della mamma di Golden Horn (Derby ed Eclipse), Postponed (King George), Ihtimal (Shamardal), Dutch Connection (Dutch Art) ed ora anche Kachy.

E pensare che quando Dubai Destination è entrato in razza a £25,000 sembrava potesse fare meglio con i primi colpi interessanti in Gossamer, sorella piena di Barathea e vincitrice di Irish 1000 Guineas. Poi il Godolphin Ibn Khaldun che vinse il Racing Post Trophy G1 a due anni e tra gli altri anche l’italiana Rosa Del Dubai, ora non più nel raggio d’azione italiano, senza dimenticare Dancer Destination negli ultimi anni vincitrice di Regina Elena G3 e seconda di Oaks G2.

Dubai Destination però non si è confermato e dopo sei stagioni al Dalham Hall Stud è sceso progressivamente con il suo tasso di monta toccando le £7,000, è andato in Australia dove ha coperto 600 femmine tra il 2004 ed il 2008 e poi è stato impegnato al Glenview Stud in Irlanda per €3,500 prima della vendita nel Febbraio scorso in Arabia Saudita. Il suo score in effetti non è stato enorme con solo il 2% dei cavalli prodotti che sono diventati vincitori di black type. Ora, come spesso accade nel mondo del purosangue, una incredibile rinascita.. ma come padre di fattrici.

Kachy too quick for Molecomb Stakes rivals

Report: Goodwood, Wednesday, Fairmont Molecomb Stakes (Group 3) 5f, 2yo

TOM DASCOMBE’s star two-year-old Kachy (4-1) remains unbeaten following a taking victory in the Group 3 sprint, holding off the evens favourite King Of Rooks with a strong run up the stands’ side to score by three quarters of a length.

The two-year-old Kyllachy colt showed significant improvement from his Chester novice stakes win and travelled well throughout the 5f sprint, with jockey Richard Kingscote producing his challenge inside the final furlong and a half and staying on well all the way to the line.

The Al Shaqab Racing-owned King Of Rooks was forced out wide from stall one, with Frankie Dettori niggling him along at halfway, but came with a daunting run inside the final furlong yet could not get past the worthy winner, while the Godolphin-owned Rouleauwas a further two lengths back in third.

Big reputation

With a step up to six furlongs looking likely to suit, the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York on August 22 looks the most probable destination for the winner and Kingscote confirmed Kachy has always been well regarded.

The winning rider said: “We’ve always liked him as we said before the race. I got there too soon really but you get a lot of hard luck stories on the straight course at Goodwood so I was keen to take the gap when it came. He kept finding when Frankie [Dettori on King Of Rooks] came to him.”

Solow overcomes Arod to maintain unbeaten run

Report: Goodwood, Wednesday, Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1) 1m, 3yo+

FRENCH ace Solow maintained his unbeaten record this season but was given a good test by Arod, who only went down by half a length.

Solow was a worthy winner despite the narrow winning margin, forging past front-runner Arod in the final half-furlong and winning with what looked at least a little left in hand.

The Freddy Head-trained five-year-old has now won eight consecutive races, four of them Group 1s, including the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.

“He’s great, he’s getting a bit lazy with his age and does exactly what he needs to. He’s just a hell of a horse,” said Head, who added Solow would be back in Britain for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on British Champions Day in October.

Solow, partnered by Maxime Guyon for the fifth time, was given a dream ride, tracking the leader Arod all the way from a smart break out of the stalls until deep into the home straight.

It was only in the last half furlong that the winner drew alongside, then passed, Arod, who dug deep in a commendable but ultimately futile bid to fend off the marauding French horse.

‘Unbelievable’

“Maxime said he knew he was going to win all the straight, [but] I wasn’t sure in the stands, I was saying ‘that one is tough’,” added Head.

“The plan is to go to the Ascot for the Queen Elizabeth in Octoboer. The softer [the ground] the better. I don’t think we will have a race before that, then after I think he will go for a well-deserved vacation.”

Guyon described the winner as the best horse he has ever partnered.

“He’s unbelievable,” he said. “He’s won four Group 1s this year and he’s easy to ride. When he goes he has the best turn of foot and when he gets to the front he stops and that’s why I don’t win that easy. He’s the best horse I ride in my life.”

Gleneagles absence

Although a convincing winner, Solow did not have to face Gleneagles, whose absence from the field turned the anticipated ‘Duel on the Downs’ to what appeared almost a one-horse race and the heavily-supported winner was sent off as a 2-5 favourite.

Gleneagles, the Aidan O’Brien-trained dual Guineas winner, was withdrawn due to the ground, which although described as good on Wednesday was still regarded as too soft for the fast ground-favouring horse.

“I’ve absolutely no regrets [about not running],” O’Brien said on Wednesday. “The moment we walked on the course we were delighted that he was not running.”

Down the field

Lockinge winner Night Of Thunder was thought the biggest remaining threat to Solow and was sent off 5-1 second favourite. He raced in mid-division but went backwards in the closing stages, finishing sixth of eight.

His fellow Godolphin contender, Belardo, likewise underperformed his odds and finished seventh.

Outsider Gabrial, representing Richard Fahey and ridden by Paul Hanagan, was a shock third but finished almost three lengths behind the winner.
