SABATO 18 LUGLIO 2015Agnano: #Azzeccagarbugli devastante nel Criterium Partenopeo. #Avabin vola nel Città di Napoli, sparo in 56,50s.
Irlanda: Covert Love (Azamour) in ascesa continua!
Love delivers Palmer first Classic success
Report: Curragh, Saturday, Darley Irish Oaks (Group 1) 1m4f, 3yo fillies
COVERT LOVE provided Hugo Palmer with the first Classic winner of his training career when reeling in the front-running Together Forever to land the Irish Oaks at the Curragh.

Pat Smullen placed the filly at the front of the pack and the field were happy to let Seamie Heffernan and Together Forever set the pace up front. Turning into the home straight it looked like Heffernan had ridden the race to perfection with his filly looking full of running.
But under pressure she began to empty and the field began to eat up the gap with Covert Love and Jack Naylor emerging from the pack up the centre of the course.
Inside the final furlong, the Jessica Harrington-trained Jack Naylor began to feel the pinch but Covert Love kept finding and was able to extend the gap to gallop away to a cosy one and three-quarter length victory, with the favourite Curvy in third.
“She was given an incredible ride and the race worked out perfectly,” said Palmer. “Aidan’s horse went off like a scalded cat and I just love the way Pat just let her go and made his own running.
“I was just waiting for those coming from behind to get to her but eventually they weren’t going to get to us.”
‘I’ll be shaking for a little while yet’
Palmer previously only had three wins in Group company and no Group 1 winners and the 34-year-old was clearly elated at easily the biggest win of of his five-year career.

“I’m terrified I’ll wake up still in my bed in Newmarket,” said the trainer. “I couldn’t be more excited, for once I am completely lost for words. It’s amazing. I think I’ll be shaking for a little while yet.”
Where next?
On future plans, Palmer added: “She’s a lightly raced young filly and I genuinely believe her biggest days, if they can get any bigger than this, are ahead of her. She travelled over perfectly and has an iron constitution.
“Pat did say the ground today was as fast as she would want it to be. But we live in western Europe, it’s got to rain somewhere.
“She’s not in the Arc, there’s still time to put her in the St Leger and we may see what the weather does in August and look at the Yorkshire Oaks. I’m kicking myself now as I crossed her name off the day before the entries, but at that point she was a 92-rated handicapper and it was a lot of money.”
Paddy Power inserted Covert Love at 8-1 in their St Leger betting, while William Hill went 20-1 for the Arc, a race for which she would have to be supplemented.

From maiden to Classic heroine
Covert Love has enjoyed a steep upward curve this season, having only run once as a two-year-old and finished fifth. Palmer has worked his magic on the filly, who was a maiden at the beginning of the season.
Her first win came over 1m5f at Chelmsford, earning her a rating of 83, and then she followed up on her handicap debut at York. That was backed up by winning a Listed race at Newcastle – beating the Group 2 placed Talmada in the process – resulting in connections considering the Irish Oaks.
A €40,000 gamble
The daughter of Azamour was supplemented for a hefty €40,000 after a perfect season. Having won all three of her previous starts, including a Listed race at Newcastle, Palmer convinced the Fomo Syndicate to put up the cash.
“Full credit to each of the guys in the syndicate, when I said I wanted to come here not one of them thought twice,” said Palmer. “Every penny she’d won we spent on coming here and I’m delighted, and I’m sure they are too.”
