Impressive Territories cruises to Jean Prat win
Report: France, Sunday
Chantilly: Prix Jean Prat (Group 1) 1m, turf, 3yos
GODOLPHIN’S Territories, no match for Gleneagles in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket in May, gave notice he is a miler to be reckoned with when cruising to victory in the Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly on Sunday.
The son of Invincible Spirit, who is trained by Andre Fabre, was two and a quarter lengths off Gleneagles at Newmarket and missed their rematch in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot with a stone bruise.
However, he showed he was well over that minor setback when recording a smooth success under Mickael Barzalona, who won the Jean Prat two years ago on the Richard Hannon snr-trained Havana Gold.

Held up, Territories tracked Dutch Connection and followed the Charlie Hills-trained colt, who swept by the field in the closing stages only to be collared by the impressive winner.
Sir Andrew was third, one place ahead of Kodi Bear, who was representing Clive Cox.
Aktabantay, last year’s Solario Stakes winner who is trained in Newmarket by Hugo Palmer, was last of the eight runners.
Fabre, winning his fifth Jean Prat, could look at next month’s Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville for Territories, who delighted Barzalona.
The jockey said: “He showed he was a good horse last year and after his runs in the Prix de Fontainebleau and the 2,000 Guineas he was entitled to be a solid favourite.
“Some strong English horses went pretty quickly up front but I always had a lot of confidence in my horse and he was well on top at the end.”
Jersey Stakes winner Dutch Connection, who is owned by Susan Roy and Cheveley Park Stud, is in Goodwood’s Qatar Lennox and Qatar Sussex Stakes this month.
“I am delighted because he has only been beaten by a very good horse and of course ours is a good horse too,” said Hills, who won Saturday’s July Cup with Muhaarar.
“Dutch Connection got the mile well, which gives us lots of options and he is only going to get better with age as he is a big, strapping horse. He is in at Goodwood, but I don’t want to overrace him too much this year.”
