DOMENICA 28 DICEMBRE 2014. Giappone: #Gentildonna trionfa nell’Arima Kinen, perfetto epilogo di una carriera impeccabile! Sette G1 come suo padre

La forma ritrovata. Quella di Gentildonna (Deep Impact) che mai aveva vinto l’Arima Kinen (la 59° edizion) proprio nel periodo in cui sembrava più opaca, meno lucida e volitiva. Lo ha fatto nel migliore dei modi, facendo valere la Classe e raggiungendo padre Deep Impact a quota 7 affermazioni a livello di G1 prima dell’ingresso in razza, che arriverà a breve. Di fronte ad una folla di 110,00 persone la campionessa ha riscritto la storia dopo le due Japan Cup tra il 2012 ed il 2013 e a Nakayama ha vinto la corsa del popolo sui 2500 metri (dotazione di Y416 milioni,£2.22m, €2.84m) approfittando del 4 di steccato e di una monta in effetti efficace da parte di Keita Tosaki (attuale leader dei fantini in Giappone, vuoi vedere che ne hanno trovato uno buono) che ha interpretato la 5 anni di Sei Ishizaka nel miglior modo possibile, seguendo la scia dei primi in posizione da sparo cioè seconda barra terza rispetto al pace maker, e poi all’ingresso in retta è andata lunga per cercare di contravvenire alle eventuali avversità di un tracciato che in teoria non era adatto ad una della sua mole. Ecco perchè è stato bravo Tosaki, nostro nuovo idolo, a far mettere sulle gambe la macchinosa femmina che comunque è apparsa in stato di grazia. Gentildonna ha fatto tutti i 310 metri della dirittura correndo come il vento ed è alla fine sfuggita agli attacchi feroci che gli sono stati portati, nell’ordine, da To The World (King Kamehameha), Gold Ship (Stay Gold), Just A Way (Heart’s Cry), Epiphaneia(Symboli Kris S) e Lachesis (Deep Impact) con in sella Cristian Demuro, finito ancora per varchi e vicinissimo alla meta. Tempo finale di 2m 35,3s con i seguenti distacchi: 3/4, muso, incollatura, muso, testa, incollatura…. un groviglio di cavalli sul palo.

Resta la bella vittoria e da capire chi sarà il principe azzurro della campionessa il prossimo anno, data l’inflazione del sangue di Sunday Silence (Halo) in Giappone. Molto probabile sia uno tra King Kamehameha (Kingmambo) o Harbinger (Dansili), tra i papabili.

Gentildonna bows out with fitting victory

Nakayama: Arima Kinen (The Grand Prix) (Grade 1) 1m4½f, turf, 3yo+

JAPAN’S end-of-season grand prix had a fairytale ending as hugely popular racemare Gentildonna (Sei Ishizaka/Keita Tosaki) bowed out in style with her seventh victory at the top level, equalling the national record established by her sire, the great Deep Impact.

The five-year-old, who made history with back-to-back Japan Cup triumphs in 2012 and 2013, scored by three-quarters of a length over longshot To The World, the mount of William Buick.

Gentildonna had not won since this year’s Dubai Sheema Classic, where she beat Cirrus Des Aigles with Ryan Moore in the saddle. Keita Tosaki did the steering in the 59th running of the Arima Kinen, where Gentildonna brought the house down in front of a crowd of 110,000 in a Y416 million (£2.22m/€2.84m) contest known in Japan as the people’s race.

Tosaki said: “I’m really glad she was able to show her best performance in the last race of her career. When I rode her the last time [in the Tenno Sho (Autumn)], she was easy to ride and very clever, so I felt very comfortable riding her this time.

“I was able to race her just as I had imagined, settling her towards the front and making use of her persistent late charge. She responded well until the end.”

Sent off a 7.7-1 shot, Gentildonna had a favourable draw in gate four and was favoured always in a favourable stalking position on the rail round the tight Nakayama circuit.

As the race developed into a sprint, severely compromising several of her fancied rivals, she got the better of Japan Cup victor Epiphaneia, who had hit the front after turning for home. The mare then held off To The World, who touched off fans’ favourite – and 5-2 market leader – Gold Ship for second place.

Just A Way, the world’s highest-rated horse, finished strongly for fourth after being hampered by a wide draw, one place in front of Epiphaneia. Like Gentildonna, Just A Way has now been retired.
