At an auction nearly dominated by Tapit  , his young son Trappe Shot  provided the top-priced horse Nov. 9 at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale in Lexington, Ky.

Led by a $200,000 weanling colt from Trappe Shot’s second crop, the sale’s sixth of 11 sessions rang up gains across the board.

Sunday’s session closed out Book 3 by selling 275 horses for $13,986,500, for an average price of $50,860 and a $42,000 median. Despite selling virtually the same number of horses as at last year’s equivalent session—275 versus 276 a year ago—the Sunday session saw a 4.1% increase in gross, as well as gains in average and median price. Sunday’s average price was 4.5% higher than the $48,679 session average at sixth session in 2013; the $42,000 median gained 5% on last year’s $40,000.

Following an earlier trend, buybacks edged upwards, too, lifting from 14.6% at 2013′s sixth day to 18.6%.

Cumulatively, the first six days have sold 1,321 horses for $180,429,500, a 5.9% increase over last year’s total for 1,339 horses. The six-day average is up 7.3%, from $127,301 in 2013 to $136,586. And the $75,000 median also is keeping its nose ahead of last year’s figure, $70,000, by a 7.1% margin.

As with the session buybacks, cumulative buybacks also have swelled from 17.6% last season to 21.9% this year.

The session-topping Trappe Shot weanling sold to Bacarri Bloodstock. Consigned by Four Star Sales, agent for Glencrest Farm, the Feb. 19 foal is out of the unraced Giant’s Causeway   mare Irish Lullaby. The dam is a half sister to a pair of grade II winners and grade I-placed runners in Imperative and Battle Won, and also to stakes winnerNadeshiko and stakes-placed Matched.

The day’s second highest price also was for a weanling, this one an April 10 son of Hard Spun   and Smart Farming (Smart Strike  ) that McMahon and Hill Bloodstock agency bought from Gainesway’s consignment for $195,000. The colt hails from the family of multiple graded-placed Lockout and the productive graded winner Dream About.

Three mares each brought $190,000 as the most expensive lots in that category.

They were 8-year-old Gainful, a stakes-placed Gone West mare in foal to First Defence   that Kern/Lillingston Associates, agent, bought from the Mill Ridge consignment; 3-year-old Landslide, an unracedMore Than Ready   half sister to 2011 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) runner-up Nehro and in foal to that runner’s sireMineshaft  , whom Gainesway’s agency sold to New Zealand Bloodstock; and 4-year-old Queenofperfection, an unraced Arch  mare out of a full sister to Speightstown   and in foal to To Honor and Serve  , whom Warrendale Sales, agent for Live Oak Stud, sold to Siena Farms.

Sunday’s leading buyer by gross was J D R Farm, which picked up four yearlings for a combined $512,000. J D R Farm also led by average price (three or more purchased) with an average spend of $128,000.

The session’s leading consignor was Taylor Made Sales with $2,311,000 from a group of 38 horses sold. Mill Ridge Sales, which offered one of the day’s top-priced mares in Gainful, led by average (three or more sold) with seven horses bringing $95,000 apiece.

More Than Ready topped the sire ranks Sunday in terms of gross sales with six of his get totaling $533,500 in the auction ring. First-crop stallion Bodemeister   took top honors for highest average price (three or more sold) after four of his foals averaged $93,000.

Among the day’s covering sires, Data Link   headed the list by gross sales: eight of his in-foal mares together fetched $456,000. Violence  scored the highest average price (three or more sold) with four in-foal mares averaging $99,250.
