Esoterique lands Prix Rothschild shock win
France: Prix Rothschild (Group 1) 3yo+ fillies and mares
ESOTERIQUE posted a shock result in the Prix Rothschild beating off stablemate Miss France and odds-on favourite Integral to score as the 12-1 outsider.

It turned out to be a tactical affair between the four runners with Integral and Ryan Moore following L’Amour De Ma Vie over to the far-side rail with Esoterique following this season’s 1,000 Guineas winner Miss France down the centre of the track.
With three furlongs to go, the group came together on the far side and it became clear that Integral, the 8-13 favourite, had her work cut out in her bid to land a second consecutive Group 1 as Moore pushed her along.
Miss France and L’Amour De Ma Vie were the next off the bridle with Pierre-Charles Boudot easing his mount into the race with two furlongs to go.
When Boudot asked his filly to go, her response was immediate and she ran down Miss France inside the final furlong to win by three-quarters of a length.
It was a second Group 1 win for Boudot having partnered Gallante to win the Grand Prix de Paris last month.
The winner, who was carrying the colours of Edouard de Rothschild whose late father Guy the race is named after, was comfortably beaten by Integral in the Duke Of Cambridge at Royal Ascot last time out but reversed the form in comprehensive style.
Nick Bell on behalf of the owners said: “She is probably better being covered up which is perhaps why she ran better than at Ascot.
“We had to stop with her after the Prix Diane after last year and she didn’t race at two so she doesn’t have many miles on the clock.”

ERVEDYA (Jean-Claude Rouget/Thierry Jarnet) stamped herself as the leading home candidate for the Prix Morny in three weeks time, although her trainer is well aware that a likely Anglo-Irish invasion will pose a whole new set of challenges.
The Aga Khan’s daughter of Siyouni eased to a relatively bloodless two-length success over City Money, while Ride Like The Wind could only finish fourth after missing the break and surrendering his prime position on the rail under Mickael Barzalona.
Rouget said: “She is a filly who only ever does just enough and hasn’t been that impressive. She certainly showed something else today. The Morny will be a whole different game but if she is well she has earned her place.”
Rouget was also responsible for arguably the most impressive winner of the day as Light In Paris and Christophe Soumillon strolled away from their rivals in the Prix du Mezeray over 7½f.
Light In Paris races in the same canary silks of Jean-Louis Tepper as Coronation Stakes runner-up Lesstalk In Paris, who suffered an horrific injury during a veterinary examination in June and had to be put down.
Lesstalk In Paris finished second in the Prix Marcel Boussac on Arc day last season and Tepper hopes that Light In Paris might go one better at Longchamp.
“Christophe Soumillon described it as a Tuesday morning canter. We have a target with her which is the Boussac. We might look at the Criterium d’Elevage at the end of the meeting or else the Prix d’Aumale.”
