THINK Flat racing and most think of Royal Ascot. The hats – running the gamut from stunning to misguided – the pageantry, the Queen in her carriage, the tops ‘n’ tails, the champagne on lush green lawns and, not forgetting, the incredible racing come together to form one of Britain’s most iconic sporting events.

Over five days in mid-June the nation’s great and good descend upon the royal racetrack for an occasion rich in every sense – in heritage, in sporting merit,and in the vast array of wealth represented by the crowds of dukes, earls and oligarchs strutting before the grandstand.

For mere mortals Royal Ascot is a chance to watch and wonder at the elaborate outfits donned at the Berkshire racecourse and watch in wonder as the cream of British and Irish Flat talent square off against each other and – increasingly – the steady stream of raiders from Australia, America and other corners of the globe.

#RoyalAscot 2014, è tutto pronto! Comincia il meeting più bello del mondo, dal 17 al 21 Giugno. 18 Pattern, 7 G1 all’insegna della memoria, della tradizione, dello sport, dello spettacolo, della passione e dello sport. Ecco cosa ci aspetta..

 
 
 
Royal Ascot is here! Oggi comincia “IL” meeting inglese per eccellenza, o meglio “The greatest race meeting in the world“, all’insegna dello spettacolo, del glamour e dello sport. Dal 1711 al 2014 sono 303 anni dalla sua fondazione voluta dalla Regina Anna (Queen Anne) alla quale siamo grati eternamente. Partiamo dal programma, che si svilupperà su 18 corse Pattern, a partire da da martedì 17 Giugno fino a sabato 21 Giugno. Da un anno siamo più soli: Sir Henry Cecil, quello che ha sellato più vincitori nel meeting reale con 75 rappresentanti, ci ha lasciato proprio un anno fa. Nella prima giornata si consumerà forse il momento più toccante e commovente dell’intero meeting, quando la Regina varcherà il Golden Gate per la “Royal Procession”, si fermerà al tondino ed onorerà, insieme al tanto pubblico previsto, la memoria di un grande uomo di sport che ha influenzato e fatto vibrare di gioia migliaia di appassionati. Giù il cappello!
 
IL PROGRAMMA: Da quel momento in poi, si comincia seguendo la scaletta. Sei corse ogni giorno, inizio alle 2,30 (ora locale) per finire alle 5,35 ora locale, naturalmente da noi un’ora più in avanti. Martedì 17 GIUGNO: Si apre con le Queen Anne Stakes G1 (CAMPO PARTENTI QUI), una delle corse più attese dell’intero meeting che si disputerà proprio come prima corsa della giornata. Si rivede Toronado (High Chaparral), al rientro dal 21 Agosto 2013, dalla debacle nelle Juddmonte International G1 dove tentò di allungare il metraggio. Torna sul miglio e torna ad Ascot, dove perse di un muso da Dawn Approach nelle St James rifacendosi successivamente nelle Sussex Stakes G1 di Goodwood. Il cavallo dell’Al Shaqab Racing avrà in sella Richard Hughes per Richard Hannon, che questa corsa l’ha vinta già con Paco Boy e Canford Cliffs. Contro avrà Verrazzano (More Than Ready), terzo con recriminazioni nelle Lockinge G1 di Newbury sul pesante alla prima europea per Aidan O’Brien e con un percorso non ideale..non vogliamo dire che si sia fatto un giro, ma è parso volersi quasi nascondere. Cavallo grosso, di mole, non era al 100%, ha scelto la scia sbagliata in una andatura lenta.. bah, pare l’unico cavallo da giocare a meno che non ci siano altre magagne sotto. Toronado non convince troppo, sembra abbia qualche piccolo problema ma Joaan Al Thani, che non è contentissimo di come stanno andando le cose, una corsa almeno deve vincerla. Verrazzano in America ha già vinto due G1 sul dirt. Qui l’americano ritrova l’italian bred Tullius (Le Vie Dei Colori), che lo ha preceduto proprio a Newbury quando a vincere fu Olympic Glory (Choisir). Altri avversari pericolosi sono Soft Falling Rain(National Assembly), vincitorre di G1 in Sudafrica, ancora a secco in Europa al massimo livello. In corsa anche Anodin (Anabaa), fratello di Goldikova che questa corsa la vinse a 5 anni, mentre a 6 si piazzò seconda.
