Clerk of the course Michael Prosser said: “It’s a glorious day. It was dry Friday and dry overnight as expected. There is no breeze at the moment and it is bright with sunny breaks through the day.”

It was a chilly start in Newmarket with Prosser reporting a “little bit of grass frost which has gone” and he added that the good places were from the Dip to the winning line. The GoingStick readings for the track are 7.6 on the far side, 7.8 in the centre and 7.7 on the stands’ side.

Kingman is the 15-8 favourite to provide his trainer John Gosden with a first win in the 2,000 Guineas and take his unbeaten record to four.

The race takes place live on Channel 4 at 3.50pm and forms the final leg of the Scoop6, which is forecast to hit £5 million.
