Remsen Stakes (gr. II) winner Honor Code will make his highly anticipated 3-year-old debut in a 1 1/16-mile allowance event over the Gulfstream Park main track on March 12, rather than shipping to Oaklawn Park for the Rebel Stakes (gr. II).
 

Trained by Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey, Lane’s End Racing and Dell Ridge Farm’s Honor Code drew post 4 in a field of five Wednesday and will have regular rider Javier Castellano aboard.

 

Entries were taken March 7 for the $75,000 event, which goes as race 8 with an approximate post time of 4:39 p.m. EDT. Also entered were Rontos Racing Stable’s Social Inclusion and Specialnightaction, Ione and Herbert Elkins’ We’re All Set, and Ta Bueno for VHHF Racing Stable. Honor Code will carry top weight of 124 pounds.

 

Honor Code missed a planned start in the Besilu Stables Fountain of Youth (gr. II) Feb. 22 with bruising in his back ankles. McGaughey moved the son of A.P. Indy from Payson Park in Indiantown to Gulfstream at the end of January to keep a closer eye on his recovery.

 

Since his arrival, Honor Code has breezed four times at Gulfstream, most recently going five furlongs in :59.18 March 2. Second by a neck to Havana in the Champagne (gr. I) in October, Honor Code beat Cairo Prince by a nose in the Remsen at Aqueduct Racetrack to end his juvenile season.

 

Cairo Prince was an easy winner of the Miller Lite Holy Bull (gr. II) at Gulfstream Jan. 25, establishing himself a leading contender for the $1 million Besilu Stables Florida Derby (gr. I) March 29, as well as the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) May 3.
