Ponche de Leona, the attractive gray dam of 2013 Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) winner Mucho Macho Man in foal to Distorted Humor , was purchased by Brushwood Stable for $775,000 to become the new sale-topper at the Keeneland January horses of all ages sale.
The stakes-winning 15-year-old daughter of Ponche, consigned by Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services, was the top-priced offering Jan. 7 with about an hour remaining in the session.
In addition to Mucho Macho Man, the $5.3-million earner who is a contender for Eclipse Awards in several categories including champion handicap horse, Ponche de Leona is also the dam of stakes-placed Mucho Mans Gold. The mare has a 2-year-old Macho Uno full brother to Mucho Macho Man and a Tapit yearling.
Reiley McDonald of Eaton Sales signed the sales receipt on behalf of Betty Moran’s Brushwood operation.
Shortly before Ponche de Leona entered the ring, Patti’s Regal Song, an Unbridled’s Song mare in foal to Malibu Moon , was purchased by River Bend Farm for $325,000. The half sister to grade II winnerRegally Appealing and to the dam of grade II stakes winner Rockport Harbor was consigned by Paramount Sales.
