Posted 2013-09-13 23:48:33. WAR FRONT COLT TOPS U S $2.5 MILLION.The market for the Keeneland September Yearling Sale continued to surge during Thursday’s session four of Book 1 with a War Front colt selling for $2.5 million to become the highest price of the sale to date.

   
 

 

Coolmore Stud’s M.V. Magnier won the bidding on Hip 712, a colt by leading sire War Front out of the stakes-placed Blading Gold Ring. Woods Edge Farm, agent, was the consignor for the yearling, the highest-priced yearling to sell at the September Sale since 2010.

Late in the session Hip 855, the half-sister to Horse of the Year Havre De Grace, sold for $1.7 million to Solis Bloodstock. The filly by Horse of the Year and two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Tiznow out of Easter Bunnette was consigned by Mill Ridge Sales, agent.

Earlier Thursday, Stonestreet Stables and Gainesway partnered to land the $1.2 million colt, Hip 681, by Tapit out of Ava Knowsthecode, dam of Grade 1 winner Justin Phillips and graded stakes winners Keyed Entry, Successful Mission and Algorithms. The yearling was consigned by Valkyre Stud, agent.

Gold Shield, Hip 846, joined the seven-figure club when David Ingordo signed the ticket for $1 million. The colt by Medaglia d’Oro out of multiple Grade 1 winner Dream Supreme is a half-brother to Grade 1 stakes winner Majestic Warrior. He was consigned by Lane’s End Farm, agent.

The total number of yearlings sold for $1 million or more to date during the sale has reached 17, the most since 18 were purchased in 2008. Seven were sold during the 2012 September Sale.
