CIRRUS DES AIGLES will miss a potential meeting with Al Kazeem after trainer Corine Barande-Barbe ruled out the Juddmonte International for the seven-year-old.

Barande-Barbe saddles her stable star in the Group 3 Prix Gontaut-Biron at Deauville on Saturday, a race Cirrus Des Aigles landed en-route to success in the Qipco Champion Stakes two seasons ago.

The son of Even Top has failed to make the frame in two starts this season, most recently finishing a distant fourth to Novellist when sent off the 6-4 favourite for last month’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

Barande-Barbe is committed to a third successive appearance in the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot on October 21 and is now working backwards from that date.

“With a view to the Champion Stakes I think this [Deauville] is a better fit,” she said. “With that in mind he won’t be going to York.”

Reflecting on the decision to skip the York race, for which Cirrus Des Aigles was a best-priced 7-1 chance, in favour of the easier race at home, Barande-Barbe added: “It’s less a case of restoring his morale and more a chance to avoid another hard trip across the Channel.

“There isn’t a lot of rain forecast in Britain over the next week. It hasn’t rained a great deal in Deauville either but it never gets really fast there.”
