Rea Lands Desert Party Filly for $460,000
Nat Rea’s Regis Farms struck early at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July sale by landing a Desert Party filly for $460,000, through noon July 15 the highest-priced yearling at the sale and highest since 2006.
Consigned by Allied Bloodstock, agent, the filly sold for $85,000 more than last year’s Fasig-Tipton July sale topper. The filly is from the first crop of new sire Desert Party, a grade II-winning son of Street Cry.
“She is a really nice and lovely filly, good quality,” said Richard Hogan, who signed the ticket for Regis. “It was more than we wanted to pay, but you have to reach for the good ones.”
The filly is out of the Kris S. mare Lil Cozette, who has produced stakes winner Cosmic Kris (Storm Creek), stakes-placed winner Foret (Forest Camp), and four other winners.
Clark Shepherd of Allied said they were pleasantly surprised with the final price but also knew the filly had potential.
“We weren’t expecting for her to go for that much,” Shepherd said. “But we have heard that she is the best Desert Party that buyers have seen.”
Bred in Kentucky by Connie Brown and Phyllis Adair, the filly was purchased by Candy Meadows farm for $80,000 as a weanling at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.
