The Andre Fabre-trained colt, who was third in the French 2,000 Guineas, was sent off 15-8 favourite but left those odds far behind with a commanding performance.
Ridden by Olivier Peslier, with whom he boasts a perfect four-from-four record, Intello began his forward move as the field thundered past the vast Grandes Écuries (Great Stables) and into the home straight.
Demonstrating an electric turn of foot, he whizzed by labouring front-runner Beyond Thankful and into a two length lead that he maintained until the line.
Godolphin’s Sky Hunter, also trained by Fabre, gamely chased the leader but his reward for his exertions was to be mugged for second by the flying Morandi late on.
Intello was slashed to 6-1 (from 16) for the Arc by BetVictor and to the same (from 10-1) by Paddy Power. He’s best-priced at 8-1 with William Hill.
Gerard Wertheimer, the colt’s co-owner, said: “I can’t say we’re really surprised. He ran very well in the Poule d’Essai where he was a little unlucky. That’s why we aimed here. As for the future, that’s up to the trainer. Each to their own job.”
