DAVID PIPE on Tuesday spoke of the similarities between Dynaste and his stablemate Grands Crus but claimed that this year’s RSA Chase favourite is a more straightforward character than last year’s beaten market leader.

Dynaste was the star name on show at Pipe’s media open day with his three electric performances over fences this season resulting in comparisons to Grands Crus, who was equally destructive in his first three runs over fences before flopping behind Bobs Worth in last year’s RSA Chase.

“He has a very similar profile to Grands Crus,” Pipe said. “But he is a more straightforward horse. He is a good traveller, jumps nicely, straightforward and has a nice engine. He looks rock solid.”

Dynaste is the 9-4 favourite for the RSA Chase following his victory in the Grade 1 Feltham Novices’ Chase but he could yet go for the Jewson over 2m4f for which his price varies between 4-1 and 8-1.

Pipe said: “He is still in the two races and probably still will be at the six-day stage.

“He has won over two and a half miles twice and then he put up a very good performance in the Feltham at Kempton over three miles. He won’t mind what the ground is.”

He added: “I did not think this year’s Feltham was as strong as last year’s but Hadrian’s Approach ran a very good race behind Unioniste which franked the form.”
