A graduate from the Hong Kong International Sale delivered good performance in the Griffin Trophy when the Richard Gibson-trained Fabulous November produced a surprise victory over the unbeaten Happy Era, to win the only feature event in the Sha Tin race meeting today.
Ridden by Tim Clark, the three-year-old son of Pins was positioned handy behind pacesetter Bullish Boy throughout the journey. He then gave quick response to his rider when Clark pressed the button in the straight and he eventually won by a short head. Golden Gunners took third.
Gibson was pleased with the horse’s progressive performance and said the change of the gear (from shadow roll to side winkers) did help his mount to easily settle into the race.
“He’s still a bit immature as you can see his behaviour at the paddock before the race. The side winkers offered a great help.”
Gibson added the HK$2 million Griffin Trophy has been a big target for Fabulous November.
“It’s our main target for a long time and he will go for a nice break.”
Winning owner Stephen Chang Tso Tung said hopefully his horse will be more competitive over 1400m and 1600m after a deserved spell.
