Aidan O’Brien: will run next year’s Derby favourite at Dundalk on Monday

AIDAN O’BRIEN sent out a third Derby winner of his career when Camelot triumphed at Epsom in June and the bookmakers believe he has another Derby hope in his care in the shape of a horse who will make his debut at Dundalk on Monday afternoon.
Mars, a son of Galileo, is one of three runners O’Brien has in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden over 7f at 2.25pm and even though he is yet to see a racecourse he is already as short as 12-1 for next year’s Derby.
Mars was cut by William Hill for the Derby on Sunday to 16-1 (from 20) but it is Boylesports who are shortest price about him with spokesman Leon Blanche likening the current support for son of Galileo to that of this year’s 000 Guineas, Derby and Irish Derby winner Camelot, who also made his debut late in July.
“This is pretty similar to what we saw before Camelot came on the scene,” he said. “We had inquiries about him for the Derby about 12 months ago, before he ran, and it’s the same story here. We have already laid Mars for the Derby and there seems to be the same sort of buzz around him as there was for Camelot last year.”
