Winner: The Fugue
3yo br f Dansili – Twyla Tharp (Sadler’s Wells)
MUSIDORA Stakes winner The Fugue got a deserved first Group 1 victory on the board in Saturday’s Nassau Stakes at Goodwood, after finishing an unlucky-in-running third in the Oaks and runner-up in the Ribblesdale Stakes.
The homebred for Lord and Lady Lloyd-Webbers’ Watership Down Stud travelled strongly under Richard Hughes and when unleashed passed long-time leader and eventual runner-up Timepiece (Zamindar) comfortably.
The Fugue becomes the 11th individual Group 1 winner sired by Banstead Manor Stud resident Dansili, whose other star performers include world champion Harbinger and Arc hero Rail Link.
Dansili has been represented by three Group 1 winners this season, all of them fillies. Apart from The Fugue, they were Fallen For You in the Coronation Stakes and Giofra in the Falmouth Stakes.
The Fugue is the second foal out of Ribblesdale Stakes runner-up Twyla Tharp, a Sadler’s Wells half-sister to Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner Summoner and Eclipse winner Compton Admiral.
Her half-sister Susan Stroman (by Monsun) is a dual winner over 1m6f-2m.
The Fugue is the second Group 1 winner bred on the Dansili-Sadler’s Wells cross after Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner Passage Of Time. The nick is also responsible for high-class runners Stipulate, Testosterone and Thomas Chippendale.
