EARL OF TINSDAL took the trophy for Sunday’s Gran Premio di Milano home to Germany after defeating last season’s Premio Lydia Tesio winner Quiza Quiza Quiza (Golden Snake) by three and a half lengths in the Group 1 at San Siro.

The Andreas Wohler-trained four-year-old was second in last year’s Deutsches Derby and won the Group 1 Rheinland-Pokal.

Earl Of Tinsdal is the sole Group 1 winner sired by Black Sam Bellamy, the winner of the Gran Premio del Jockey Club and Tattersalls Gold Cup.

Black Sam Bellamy is bred in the purple, as a son of Sadler’s Wells and Arc heroine Urban Sea, making him a brother to brilliant sire Galileo and three-parts brother to the outstanding Sea The Stars.

Having stood at Gestut Fahrhof for five seasons, from 2009 he was leased to stand at Shade Oak Stud, where he stood this season at a fee of £4,000.

Black Sam Bellamy is also the sire of US Grade 2 winner Daveron and Group 3 scorers Goathemala, Saphir, Valdino and Vengence.

He is emerging as a force in the jumps sphere, where his best runner is Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up The Giant Bolster.

Earl Of Tinsdal was bred by Hannes Gutschow out of the winning Dashing Blade mare Earthly Paradise, making him a half-brother to Listed winner Earlsalsa and Emily Of Tinsdal, who broke her maiden in a 1m event at Munich also on Sunday.
