Direi che il Derby Inglese ha consacrato questo soggetto come il cavallo più importante sulle distanze classiche. Figlio di cotanto padre ha già la strada del dopo corse tracciata. Lo facciamo cavallo del mese di giugno anche perchè probabilmente non ci sarà un altro soggetto così evidentemente affascinante fino alla fine di giugno 2012. Aspettiamo solo Orfevre… a luglio o a settembre.

Camelot valutato 124 lbs nel Derby di Epsom
Il post Derby è affascinante quanto il pre. Subito dopo la vittoriaa di Camelot (Montjeu) si sono sprecati i paragoni con Sea The Stars (Cape Cross) che seppe completare il doppio 2000 Ghinee – Investec Derby, intanto a far paragoni ci ha pensato la British Horseracing Authority (BHA) che ha assegnato a Camelot un rating di 124, stesso identico a quello di Sea The Stars nel 2009. Comunque sia, un valore più basso di quello realizzato secondo i loro handicapper da Workforce nel 2010 (128) e da New Approach nel 2008 (126). Altro esempio recente, in linea tutto sommato con le impressioni, è quello di Pour Moi (Montjeu) che lo scorso anno è stato valutato una libbra sotto Camelot, e dunque 123. Phil Smith, capo degli handicapper della BHA, ha spiegato ai microfoni di At The Races: “He’s very good, no question. We’ve given him a mark of 124 so far. At this stage of his development we see him as the same horse as Sea The Stars”. Dunque, dovranno capire quale sarà il suo eventuale miglioramento comparato con quello che fece Sea The Stars, vedendolo correre anche contro gli anziani, cosa che non sappiamo quando avverrà però. Camelot a due anni aveva 119 e dopo le 2000 Ghinee aveva 121. Sky is the limit. Meglio lui o Sea The Stars?

However, the rating is lower than Workforce’s in 2010 (128) and New Approach in 2008 (126). Pour Moi, last year’s French-trained winner, achieved a rating 1lb lower at 123. BHA head of handicapping Phil Smith told ATR: “He’s very good, no question. We’ve given him a mark of 124 so far. At this stage of his development we see him as the same horse as Sea The Stars. “What we want to see him do now is to run against older horses. That is the great barometer. Sea The Stars went on to beat the older horses and remained unbeaten through the year. “At some point we hope Camelot is going to run against older horses. It gives you a much more solid idea where he ranks in world racing.”Camelot achieved a rating of 119 as a two-year-old and 121 for his Qipco 2,000 Guineas win in April.

Il Derby di Camelot e della O´Brien Family
Nijinsky nel 1970 è stato l´ultimo a conquistare la Triple Crown classica – 2000 Ghinee, Derby, St Leger - ma il cavallo che oggi ha dominato Investec Derby di Epsom può raggiungere questo traguardo. Camelot (Montjeu) non ha avuto il minimo problema a distruggere gli avversari nelle mani del giovane e sempre più sicuro Joseph O´Brien per la doppia soddisfazione del padre allenatore Aidan. Sistematosi nelle posizioni di coda ha iniziato a muovere dopo il Tattenham corner ed in breve ha raggiunto la testa per staccarsi facile vincitore mentre una categoria più indietro la feroce lotta per il secondo posto ha dato ragione a Main Sequence (Aldebaran) con Ted Durcan che ha prevalso di un soffio su Astrology (Galileo), monta di Moore; negando il double alla Coolmore connection. Per O´Brien e tutta la squadra anche la vittoria di St Nicholas Abbey nella Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup G1.
