It’s rare that a catalogue page is consumed by just one dam and the exploits of her offspring but in the case of Goffs Million entrant Change Sings, his pedigree is so rich that only his half siblings and their produce made it onto his page in last year’s Goffs Orby catalogue. The first crop son of 2000 Guineas and Vertem Futurity winner Saxon Warrior is the penultimate foal out of Trevor Stewart’s brilliant broodmare Cassandra Go, who was a high-class sprinter on the track but excelled herself in her breeding career.

Victorious in Royal Ascot’s opening day blitz, the King’s Stand Stakes, the daughter of Indian Ridge was also successful in the Group 2 Temple Stakes and the Group 3 King George Stakes and runner-up in the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket.

As a half-sister to sire Verglas, winner of the Coventry Stakes in the year that Cassandra Go was foaled, and placed in both the Irish 2000 Guineas and National Stakes, Trevor Stewart had an exciting broodmare prospect on his hands.

From her 15 foals of racing age, Cassandra Go has produced ten winners from 12 runners, an impressive strike rate of itself but it is the calibre of those winners which ensured that her name was the only dam on the page when Change Sings came under the hammer at last year’s Goffs Orby Sale.

Her greatest achievement so far is her Pivotal daughter Halfway To Heaven who won the Irish 1000 Guineas, Nassau Stakes and Sun Chariot Stakes in a glorious summer of 2005. Also second in the Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches and the Matron Stakes for Aidan O’Brien and the Coolmore team, Halfway To Heaven has become an treasured broodmare for Coolmore as the dam of joint-European Champion Three-Year-Old Magical whose seven Group 1 triumphs included two renewals of the Irish Champion Stakes. That accomplishment saw her join Arc winner Dylan Thomas as the only horses to have claimed successive victories in one of the world’s most prestigious races.

As if Magical’s exploits weren’t enough, the Galileo mare is also a younger full-sister of the triple Group 1 winner Rhododenron who beat the colts in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes.

Cassandra Go’s daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar, named Theann, was sold for €400,000 by Ballyhimkin Stud to Demi O’Byrne a year before the Coolmore team purchased Halfway To Heaven at the 2006 Goffs Million Sale for €450,000. She won the Group 3 Summer Stakes and as a broodmare has produced the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes and Rodeo Drive Stakes winner Photo Call, also by Galileo.

Cassandra Go’s name will continue to appear in pedigrees for years to come as Theann’s son of No Nay Never, the Group 2 Richmond Stakes winner Land Force, has his first yearlings this year.

The great mare’s matings with Invincible Spirit produced the Group 3 Coral Charge Sprint and Abernant Sprint winner Tickled Pink, herself now the dam of five winners including the recent Deauville Listed winner Victoria Road who is also a son of Saxon Warrior, and the Group 3 Round Tower Stakes and Listed Curragh Stakes third Fantasy.

With entries in next weekend’s Goffs Million and next year’s Cazoo Epsom Derby, the Paddy Twomey-trained Change Sings is poised to add even further lustre to the shining legacy of his wonderful dam.
