Royal Kahala To Be Offered At Goffs December National Hunt Sale

High class hurdler Royal Kahala will be offered for sale at this year’s Goffs December National Hunt Sale which takes place from 6 – 8 December.  One of the highest rated NH mares in training last season, Royal Kahala won the Grade 2 John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle on Goffs Thyestes day in January at Gowran Park for the Winning Ways Starlet Syndicate and trainer Peter Fahey.

Royal Kahala is a seven-year-old mare by Flemensfirth out of Leading Lady (Fraam) who is a daughter of the Grade 1 winning mare Lady Rebecca.  She will be offered in foal to Crystal Ocean whose first foals set the sales ring alight last year.  Prior to her Galmoy Hurdle success, five-time winner Royal Kahala also recorded Grade 3 success at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival.

Foal trade meanwhile continues to go from strength to strength at Goffs December NH Sale, headed by a top price of €100,000 last year, and the 2022 catalogue is shaping up well with quality foals by Walk In The Park, No Risk At All, Crystal Ocean, Blue Bresil, Getaway, Jet Away, Maxios and Kew Gardens among the entries already confirmed.

Announcing Royal Kahala for the December NH Sale, Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“Royal Kahala is a top-class mare that would grace any farm and we are very grateful that her owners have chosen to sell her at Goffs.

The December Sale is the fastest growing National Hunt Sale in terms of quality and results for vendors, with recent highlights including a top foal price of €100,000 and the highest ever price achieved for a National Hunt mare at public auction of €530,000.

This year’s entries are shaping up very well and the Goffs NH team, led by Gerry Hogan, Neil Walsh, Peter Molony and Kevin Ross, are working closely with vendors to produce a catalogue packed with quality across three days”.

Midweek Racing Wednesday 21 September

GOODWOOD RACECOURSE

Autumn Racing at Goodwood

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II; not only was she the longest-reigning monarch, but she was also the world’s most recognized, respected, and revered supporter of horseracing.

We join with the whole of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth realms in mourning her death and we pray for her family at this sad time.

Post the State Funeral of Her Majesty on Monday 19 September, Midweek Racing will go ahead as planned on Wednesday 21 September.

On the occasion of Her Majesty’s death, we remember fondly her enormous passion for racing which endured throughout her reign and the many times she came to Goodwood to enjoy the horseracing.

Her long life and reign was an inspiration to us all.

Midweek Racing

The highlight of our next Midweek Racing fixture on Wednesday 21 September is the ten-furlong Foundation Stakes for three-year-olds and upwards, now established as an important feature of this race day and worth over £50,000 in prize money.

This Listed contest has been designed to attract both current and emerging high-class performers over a middle distance. High-profile winners of the Foundation Stakes down the years include the superb Twice Over, Anna Nerium and last year Victory Chime who was ridden by our racecourse ambassador and Chichester born jockey Hector Crouch.
