Friday: Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes, Newmarket

Prosperous Voyage delivered a major upset in the Falmouth Stakes, defeating 1-7 favourite Inspiral at Newmarket. 

The shock result ended Inspiral’s unbeaten run and denied her a hat-trick of Group 1 wins following success in the Coronation Stakes. 

The Ralph Beckett-trained winner was 10 lengths behind Inspiral at Royal Ascot but overturned the defeat to land victory under Rob Hornby. 

“I’m just delighted really for her, for her owners and especially for the whole team,” Hornby said. “They work so hard and always had so much faith in her. She wasn’t quite herself at Ascot and for her to bounce back like that – I’m just so pleased for her. 

“It’s a rollercoaster of a game and to just get the opportunity to be riding these kind of horses at the highest level is just a huge privilege and an honour.”

Twice second to Inspiral as a two-year-old in Group company, Prosperous Voyage was again forced to play bridesmaid on her three-year-old debut, finishing just a neck off Cachet in the 1,000 Guineas. 

However, she took centre stage at Newmarket with a front-running masterclass, striking at 16-1 for her first Group 1 success, with Sandrine finishing third.
