Organised on the eve of the prestigious Grand Steeple-Chase weekend, which brings together the best European jumpers every year at Auteuil Racecourse in Paris, the 2022 Grand Steeple Sale will take place at Saint-Cloud on 20 May.
|
|
|
The sale will feature a selection of National Hunt horses that have run recently and prospective jumpers, as well as horses in training from the Estate of the late Magalen Bryant.
A catalogue with the first lots in the sale will be put online next week on www.arqana.com and updated as and when further entries are received. A paper version will also be available on site on the day.

The figures for average and median both rose in excess of 30% year on year, to an average of 115,917gns and median of 90,000gns.
The dependable Kodiac was the leading sire of the sale with five sold for a total of 1.2 million gns and average of 240,400gns.
Tweenhills resident Zoustar led the freshman sires, his three juveniles selling for an average of 243,333gns.
Dubai-based Satish Seemar was at the sale with his nephew Bhupat, who hopes to run breeze-up graduate Summer Is Tomorrow (Summer Front) in the Kentucky Derby, and was the leading buyer with four bought for 750,000gns.
The name Omnihorse was a new addition to the buyers’ list, with the syndicate involving Kia Joorabchian of Amo Racing featuring alongside five lots.
The 2021 Craven Sale completed a Classic trials double on the Rowley Mile with graduates Native Trail (Oasis Dream) and Cachet (Aclaim) winning the G3 Craven S. and G3 Nell Gwyn S. respectively.

The big story
National and Dewhurst Stakes scorer Native Trail was 5-2 favourite for the 2,000 Guineas on Wednesday morning. On Thursday morning, he was trading around 6-4 after his straightforward and authoritative success in the Craven Stakes.
The Godolphin star extended his unbeaten record to five with a three-length victory over Claymore and proved a mile is well within his range.
His trainer Charlie Appleby said: “We know this horse now and he won this like he did the National Stakes last year in which he was under the pump before picking up, and it was the same in the Dewhurst when he picked up when he hit the rising ground.
“What I love about him is he does things all the right way around. He’s not one of these horses that’s a free traveller and you think he’s doing too much and what’s he going to find. You know when this horse gets into a battle he’s going to be finding right to the line, and I’m delighted. He and Coroebus are two different types of horses.”
Appleby suggested Buick “can’t get off” Native Trail for stablemate Coroebus, who worked on the Rowley Mile before racing, in the 2,000 Guineas, while the rider played a straight bat to such a question after the race. On The Nose knows which star they would be siding with . . .
